Logistically, how can keyworkers be vaccinated first?

Lost of threads about various professions, keyworkers being vaccinated first as top priority in the second wave, but logistically how would that happen?

Letters currently being sent out, inviting for vaccine, are based on age and if you are on shielding list (so will have had letter already). So the criteria is just set for age (which your GP has). Even “vulnerable” people will be those who get flu vaccine - again already established database.

I’m a critical worker, but I don’t think my GP will have that recorded.

Will it have to go through employers? They effectively provide details and then the invite will be issue? Will it just cause delays and in fact it will be quicker to just carry on down the ages? I just have visions of it being announced and then total chaos as various groups are forgotten and need to be added.

I’m having mine next week through my employer, local authority. I work in social care.

Nacreous · 26/01/2021 21:23

So I imagine it would happen the same way we're sorting it for health and social care workers.

We made a list of all the types of people we needed to invite. We then made a list of all the organisations that employed those types of people. We then contacted those organisations and got lists of all the people. We then invited those people for vaccinations.

There's no registration of all health and social care workers by any stretch of the imagination.

Obviously what would really help would be more than a few weeks notice that they'll want us to do that and who as it is a time consuming process. Definitely not impossible though.

I am also front line for local authority and have been told to expect invite imminently for vaccine through employer.

CuntingSeal · 26/01/2021 21:25

Yes we had a link to book a vaccine through work.

Also my GP surgery asked for proof of employer and they asked me to book an appointment for the jab - but I had already had it through work.

@Nacreous that’s useful to know. As you say huge job if opened up to all critical workers.

I am a health care worker. I was sent a link to book my appt. When I got there, they asked who I worked for. They didn't have my company on their system and told me it was the county council who contacted me.

I think it would be possible for public sector key workers as it would be organised through their employer. Much more difficult for retail workers though.

GoldGreen · 26/01/2021 21:38

@Peakedin1997 agreed. I’m public sector and I can see how it would be easier for us to be identified.

You'd get invited via your employer I presume
