Anyone know what the NEU are announcing?

Their twitter accounts says "In 3 hours the NEU will make making a huge announcement." (sic)

There was speculation on another thread that it was to call for nurseries to close of for teachers to strike. That was only speculation though I believe.

No idea what they are going to say.

Maybe vax for teachers though surely that would come from gov?

Allowed but not enforced I agree would be great.

But I would imagine any policy change would be via a government announcement rather than a union, but who knows?

I’m in the NEU and have had an email asking me to be part of the big announcement. It doesn’t say what the announcement is but talks about inequality and children living in poverty with no access to a computer or internet or basic materials.

I don’t think there is hostility, is there? Not that I’ve seen. Just a wondering about the badly worded tweet trying to be oh-so-mysterious. If you’ve got something to say just say the damn thing without all the pantomime.

Aren't the children most in need mostly in school? The Gov are already professing to be handing out devices and data deals- can't see them stepping it up from that.

Not necessarily. Sen schools are technically open, we are, but due to clinical vulnerabilities some are choosing to stay at home.

Also, if a child has to self isolate or a school has to close (a lot of Sen schools I know have done this a few times) or a class has to be sent home due to lack of staff, they need materials.

We've sent stationary etc.

To be honest, schools (and individual teachers) buy a lot for kids anyway, but the well is running dry.

There's also catch-up programmes, eg things like doodle maths and reading eggs. These are online but some still haven't got laptops etc.

Also, basic stationary and art material help to provide non screen time activities, drawing, for pleasure etc.

Was there an announcement?
