Has anyone any idea what this may be about? I can't find much in the news.

OP posts:
AmyFl · 25/01/2021 13:33

It's Matt Hancock apparently.

ThornAmongstRoses · 25/01/2021 13:35

Good - I can’t take Boris seriously at all.

It’s just the standard Monday briefing I assume - not anything specific.

higglepiggley · 25/01/2021 13:40

It's just standard

I can't understand why everyone thinks it's always a big announcement?

PuppyMonkey · 25/01/2021 13:42

We have them fairly regularly now, I’m surprised people still seemed so shocked by them.Grin

user1497207191 · 25/01/2021 13:45

Got to be grateful that infections appear to be coming down slowly and deaths starting to level out. That means we're unlikely to see more restrictions being imposed, which has to be a good thing. I can't imagine any big announcements today, just the usual updates.

acatcalledjohn · 25/01/2021 14:18

I think it will be about Coronavirus; facts & figures surrounding the spread and vaccination, followed up with questions from the public & media.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 25/01/2021 14:23

At least it's not Patel. That woman makes me want to hurl things.

Are we taking bets on whether we're getting 'about to cry' Matt or 'smug as fuck' Matt?

Bluesheep8 · 25/01/2021 14:24

I think you're right

Please stop with the hysterical and outlandish speculation!
ineedaholidaynow · 25/01/2021 14:25

As it's not Gavin or Boris it won't be anything about schools

They usually last well over half an hour: surely enough time for both?
unicornparty · 25/01/2021 14:29

Its just the standard update that happens regularly. Surely everyone knows this now?Hmm

BananaPop2020 · 25/01/2021 14:31

It will be the usual combo of stating the obvious, telling us how the Governmental heart “breaks” for the dead and then refusing to give any sort of direct or specific answer to a question.

SparkysMagicPiano · 25/01/2021 14:36

Why does everyone get their knickers in a twist about the regular, daily (well, Mon-Fri) press conferences?

Why do you need to know what it's going to be about? Not sure what news sources you are looking at, but if you "can't find much" then you might want to research some other sources.

Plenty of other posters have described what it will be about. It will be about the same things that every other press conference is about

YogaLite · 25/01/2021 14:45

They will produce weekend data showing a drop in deaths and call it good news.

KatherineJaneway · 25/01/2021 14:54

At least there will be nothing major if Matt is doing it. They'll wheel Boris out if it is more serious news.

Ch3rish · 25/01/2021 14:54

@YogaLite

Whatever you think of Chris Whitty et al they have never suggested that a weekend dip in numbers means anything other than that the systems don't work at 100% at the weekend. Everyone who's the slightest bit interested in the statistics knows that

Or are you being sarcastic in some way?

tootyfruitypickle · 25/01/2021 14:55

@acatcalledjohn. Grin

acatcalledjohn · 25/01/2021 15:02

@JazzyGeoff Please stop with the hysterical and outlandish speculation!

You are right, I apologise for my unsubstantiated and, frankly, hysterical comment.

PilatesPeach · 25/01/2021 15:11

I have pretty much given up watching them live unless it is Boris and just catch the main points (didn't want to call them highlights) on the 6pm news.

Priti Patel in particular just tells us all off over and over, never answerin' any questions directly or ever clarifyin' anythin'

likeamillpond · 25/01/2021 16:09

They're getting boring now. I can't be bothered to watch any more.
It's worthwhile watching an 8pm announcement, otherwise it's a load of waffle.
Next slide please.

Boris Johnson extends lockdown powers UNTIL JULY with no end in sight to Covid restriction
BORIS JOHNSON has quietly given the go ahead for coronavirus lockdown laws to be extended, it is claimed.

Stop being so inflammatory Hmm

This Government wants lockdown to end as quickly as possible to save the economy and get life back to normal. They will lift restrictions when it is safe to do so. That will not be mid-February, unfortunately for us all it will take time.
