Donating plasma

I'm a bit confused about donating plasma. I wanted to do it but on the NHS it asked my height and weight, and then stated that I can't do it as I weigh than 12st 2lb. I'd be reasonably overweight at 5'5" if I weighed that much - are only larger people needed for this or is there something wrong with the calculator on there?

No, it's all to do with your blood volume which is why they need big, strapping blokes and larger women. But the plasma donation programme has been halted now as it's been shown to make little difference as a therapy.

They messaged me today to ask me to do it though? So I think it's still on?

Oh interesting. They texted me a few weeks ago but then it said on the news that the trial was off so I didnt bother following it up. Maybe I should then.

Yes it's still on but it's different. So still worth doing if you can.

I got a message from them today too! It was for DC though and, at 10 years old, is obviously too young. I was surprised though as I also thought this had been halted.

I’ve signed up for this, but stupidly got a home piercing kit over Christmas and did my nose. Now can’t do it until may

The covid plasma trial has been halted but the NHS still needs standard plasma for the same reasons as they did pre-covid.

I think they halted the covid plasma trial they were doing but are now testing patients at an earlier stage of illness. Unless they've stopped that too, although it would have been very quick.
