Tested positive - call to take second test from Op Moonshot

Hi all,

I took a covid test on Jan 23rd after developing sx the day before. Received a positive result yesterday.

I just received a call from a nice Scottish lady who said she was calling on behalf of the Department of Health & Social Care as they are trying to develop a 2 hour turnaround test, and they’re looking to recruit people who tested positive on the 23rd to take a second test which gets delivered by post tomorrow, where I will then have details to book a courier to come and fetch it the same day.

I agreed to do this, enquired about the inclusion criteria, and why I’d been contacted etc. She said to related to Operation Moonshot.

She then asked me to confirm address details etc, I explained I wasn’t comfortable giving them since I hadn’t been expecting the call, but I confirmed my house number and then nothing further. She didn’t press me for any more details though, which I think seems a bit odd.

Has anyone else had this call and it turned out to be legit? Or is it a scam where they trick you into disclosing details?

How could she possibly have known you were postive from a test taken on 23rd?

Either there is a connection to the testing organisations, or you have posted on an open page somewhere?

Well that’s a very good point!

Just being cautious as I know there’s lots of chancers about currently, although I’m not exactly the target market for the average grifter, being a millennial.

I guess you’ll find out if it was genuine when you receive a test kit in the post (or not).

What number did the call come from?

God, I feel such an idiot for posting this now. Just googled the number, it’s the track and trace number. Hahahahah. She wasn’t track and trace though, she said they should still be calling at some point. I guess it was legit then!

Entirely reasonable of you to be cautious.

This second test never turned up. So in hindsight, I’m quite glad I didn’t give all my details. My spider senses must have tingled for a reason.
