AIBU to ask what is the worst lockdown rule you have broken?

AIBU to say a lot of (but not all) people have broken the rules to varying degrees once or twice even when they generally stick to the rules?

What’s the worst thing you’ve done?

I went to the pub with a friend when I shouldn’t have done as not from same household. Sitting outside would have been ok at that point...

Today we drove a 35 minute drive to exercise. I don't think that's allowed as its not exactly local to me. Not seen my family though I have been good I think.

A cup of tea in mil garage (open) after our walk. It was freezing

MNerGoneRogue · 24/01/2021 23:02

Out of interest, how do you envisage this thread is going to go?

Rarotonga2 · 24/01/2021 23:03

The only time I have broken the rules is when I went to stay at my mum's in the first lockdown with my toddler. I was working from home with a toddler and I wasn't allowed to have him around me whilst I was on Zoom calls. I had to do Zoom video sessions all day, four days a week. We isolated for seven weeks before going to my mum's so I knew we were Covid free. It was the only thing I did wrong but it was the only option.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 24/01/2021 23:03

We went to my mum & dad the weekend before support bubbles officially started (but had been announced) because dd2 was in reception & going back to school & it seemed safer than waiting til she's mixed with 15 other households
I had 2 friends over in the garden (when it was allowed) and when there was a rain shower we went inside til it stopped. (Corner sofa 2 ends & middle)
I let exh come into house to visit children - we stay well away from each other 🤣😂. He lives 2hrs away and visits them every 2 weeks for the day. Normally he takes them out for the day but obviously not possible in lockdown

Um, I haven't really broken the rules much.

The only thing I can think of is that I drove about 5 miles to a friend's house in the first lockdown to collect a spare tv when ours packed up.

And I probably haven't managed to stay exactly 2m from everyone when I'm out walking, though I do try.

I'm quite anxious about covid, so err on the side of being more cautious than the rules, rather than less.

My Mum started looking after DS again before childcare bubbles were allowed. I was running out of annual leave and can't work from home or be furloughed

MsJaneAusten · 24/01/2021 23:07

Hugging my mum when technically she is only my childcare bubble.

That is perfectly legal.

The law and the guidance are not the same thing.

I really hope people don't start with the "right" and "wrong".

Had my mum, my uncle, my cousin and I at my grans house in June for her birthday (80) . We all sat outside but we didn’t physically distance . We were/are support bubbled with my gran, and my uncle pops in and out of hers anyway to do DIY that my mum can’t, so it made sense at the time .

Now however, we do nothing but solitary walks .

I went to the pub with a work colleague the night before we were moved into tier 3. If we'd been having a business meeting it would have been fine. I'd bet my house on the fact that no-one else in the pub lived with their drinking companions either. The pub didn't ask - they were prob more worried about the hundreds of pints of beer they were going to have to throw away the next day.

namechangetheworld · 24/01/2021 23:11

We've been sticking VERY strictly to the rules since the very beginning. But earlier we let DD5 have a ten minute snowball fight in the street with the neighbour's children. It was the first time we've broken the rules in almost a year, and will probably be the last as I feel so guilty.

MynephewR · 24/01/2021 23:12

At no point from the start of this have I kept 2m away from people I was seeing socially. Whether I was seeing them within the rules or not within the rules.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 24/01/2021 23:13

My best friend split with her husband during the first lockdown. She had a huge meltdown once she got into her own home with the children, called me in tears, I dropped everything and went over.
Sometimes emotional needs outweigh guidelines.

Hmm
Bourbonic · 24/01/2021 23:16

A close relative lives alone very remotely and I'm the nearest family to him (2hr drive). He had to have his dog put to sleep and was distraught so I went to see him. This was before support bubbles were introduced, and I'd do the same again.

Did you at least meet outdoors?

Not sure if that counts as breaking the rules tbh. I think we have been allowed to provide assistance to vulnerable people throughout. It sounds like your friend was vulnerable.

Gone round to friends' flat for drinks. Five different households altogether. No social distancing. Slept with one of the guys. It's happened about four times since last March. I have no regrets about it and make no apologies. I live alone, no family nearby and I've really missed having a social life and those nights were much needed.
