AIBU to ask what is the worst lockdown rule you have broken?

EmJay19 · 24/01/2021 22:49

AIBU to say a lot of (but not all) people have broken the rules to varying degrees once or twice even when they generally stick to the rules?

What’s the worst thing you’ve done?

I went to the pub with a friend when I shouldn’t have done as not from same household. Sitting outside would have been ok at that point...

seepingweeping · 25/01/2021 00:32

I was dropping food off at my mums. Dd fell over onto the pavement getting out the car and burst her nose and cut her top lip so I had to go inside my mums to clean her up.

LucyLockdown · 25/01/2021 00:33

Honestly I think this kind of thread is dangerous as it leads to a 'Oh well everyone is breaking the rules in one way or another' mentality.

AllesAusLiebe · 25/01/2021 00:34
 • haven't stopped DS from seeing his grandparents since the end of the first lockdown. They we're upset that we were limited to WhatsApp calls and they're old enough to make their own decisions and assessment of risk.
 • had drinks with friends on boxing day
 • had friends over on new year's eve.
 • pretended to be from the same household as a good friend and went out numerous times for drinks and dinner when she was having a hard time with her relationship.
 • quite often drive for exercise. I live in an area that is flooded with daytrippers whenever the sun is shining. Driving 40 minutes away to go for a run is safer.

What I haven't done is meandered around the supermarket with my entire family or queued in non-essential shops to load up on Christmas presents. Swings and roundabouts.

LucyLockdown · 25/01/2021 00:35

@Saracen

When we were only allowed out for exercise once a day, I went out two or three times a day if I wanted to.
I don't know why this myth about 'only being allowed out for exercise once a day' persists though. That was never the case. It's still just guidance.
JengaJanga · 25/01/2021 00:35

None because I'm not a SELFISH TWAT!

dottiedaisee · 25/01/2021 00:36

Sons 21st who has depression...older son came and stayed for his birthday. We all had LFTs beforehand all negative. Son definitely benefited from sibling being with us ..so right decision and absolutely no risks to anyone...safer than going to a supermarket!

JengaJanga · 25/01/2021 00:36

And because im CEV and im one of the ones who would die because of one of you !!!!!

Unbelievable selfish behaviour

Sometimeswinning · 25/01/2021 00:42

Broken a few rules whilst in tier 2. That was back in November/december time.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 25/01/2021 00:45

@LucyLockdown it was this case in lockdown 1.0

HibernatingTill2030 · 25/01/2021 00:47
@LucyLockdown it was this case in lockdown 1.0
No it wasn't.

DeeCeeCherry · 25/01/2021 00:48

Chuckleknuckles
Flew abroad to see family at Christmas. Didn’t isolate. Went out and met friends
🙄

Precisely why my heritage country got Covid cases down to 0 with no deaths, but then upon opening borders to British tourists, so many of whom break self-isolation and distancing rules, case numbers are now in the 100s with hotel staff much affected.

Nice one.

AllesAusLiebe · 25/01/2021 00:52

@jengajanga of course you're entitled to hold that opinion, but I do find it a little narrow-minded without knowing what is going on in the lives of others.

It's a dangerous rabbit hole to go down when we begin to place physical health above mental health.

FinallyFluid · 25/01/2021 00:57

I am CEV, I have gone nowhere and done nothing.

However my son and his closest friend geographically have sat in my garage rather than roam the streets, once a week, at a push, they sit miles away from each other, the builder who built the house and garage built it from anything he could "acquire" from building sites, before they were replaced there wasn't a single matching radiator in the house.

Anyhoo I digress as he built the garage 75 years ago to a spec and then couldn't acquire the correct size window, so there are windows but there is good two inch gap all around. The window blows in on all four sides.

His mate goes home, he comes in, strips off into a black plastic bag, which DH deals with, he then has a very hot shower and we don't see him again until the next morning.

Friend also has CEV shielder in their house and both households are happy with it, once , max twice a week. As the other guys Dad said how desperate do you have to be to sit in a cold draughty garage once at a push twice a week for an hour.

GrandTheftWalrus · 25/01/2021 01:06

A work colleague hugged me after I told him I'd had a miscarriage. This was in May literally days after I'd been told. I hadn't even been to the hospital for treatment yet but I still went into work. In hindsight I shouldn't have went to work but I needed some normality before starting treatment to remove my baby.

As is the 2 meter thing actually.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 25/01/2021 01:10

During the first lockdown I was having cancer treatment Monday to Friday. My Mum used to come over once a week to see me and take me to hospital to give DH a day off from taking me and hanging around.

I think she just wanted to spend time with me in case I didn't get better.

Shmithecat2 · 25/01/2021 01:10

@Mousehole10

If you were in tier 4 you weren’t allowed a Christmas bubble even on Christmas Day.

You were if the bubble already existed.

AIBU to ask what is the worst lockdown rule you have broken?
augustusglupe · 25/01/2021 01:12

Totally agree re Mental health AllesAusLiebe
We had DD over for Christmas. 4 nights. Had a lovely time.

Royalty2k · 25/01/2021 01:13

None! I'm a good girl 😊 just want this all over with so I stick to the rules

HibernatingTill2030 · 25/01/2021 01:19

Nothing- but I'm not the most social of people normally anyway and it was nice to have an excuse to get out of doing things over the summer

firstevernamechange · 25/01/2021 01:20

I don't take much notice of the rules, but can't imagine I've broken many laws. Guidelines on the other hand...

Had Covid early on, and would rather have it again every year than participate in the mass hysteria. I meet friends if they want to, hug them if they are OK with it. Go to the shops a few times a week, use public transport when I need to without wearing a mask. And I couldn't care less if people think I'm selfish. Grin

TwoZeroTwoZero · 25/01/2021 01:33

Went to my dad's with my sister. He's elderly and has a few problems and had been robbed.

Bumped into my mum in the supermarket and had a conversation.

And I’m so glad for you and her she did. Sending love @Chesneyhawkes1 that must have been hard Flowers
NYCDreaming · 25/01/2021 01:50

I looked after a friend's child five or six times during the first lockdown. We weren't in a bubble or anything, but she needed the help.

Userzzz · 25/01/2021 01:52

All of them.
