My mum's partner is in hospital waiting for an op, and someone in his ward has just been diagnosed with covid.

They've moved this other person out of the ward to somewhere else and swabbed all the remaining patients, but no one has said what will happen next.

My mum and brother are both vulnerable, so if they send my mum's partner back to stay with her and he's incubating covid, I can't bear the thought of what might happen next. Her partner lives alone miles away, but at the moment he can't look after himself (which is why he needs this operation, and mum has been his support bubble).

Aaargh!

I can only speak of my experience. My MIL is in hospital, someone in her bay had a positive for covid, she was moved to a side room, before testing positive herself. She was then transferred to a covid ward, she has now been transferred to a different ward (also different hospital) to finish her isolation but the current plan is that she will now go on to a care home with a covid isolation unit. However she is medically fit and is more in need of a period of rehab.

I would say it is very unlikely that they would discharge him and he will be tested regularly.

I hope he stays well, it has been such a worry for us with her being in hospital.

Thanks @TheGreatWave, I hope your MIL recuperates quickly!

Apparently, none of the 7 people left in the ward (all of whom are now isolating together because any one of them could be incubating covid) are wearing or being asked to wear masks.

I can't understand this - they're isolating because there's a chance that some of them have picked up the virus, but they're not being asked to wear masks to keep the others on the ward safe.
