Are nurseries taking on new children who receive 15 hours free childcare or are they only open to key workers? Sorry if this is a stupid question, thanks

Still open

ChocOrange1 · 24/01/2021 08:03

They are open

buzzandwoodyallday · 24/01/2021 08:04

Just realised that was a bit short!! My DD started at a new nursery at the beginning of the month so, yes, they are still open in most areas I think. I have read on here that some are closed, but I think that may be in parts of London, so it depends where you live I suppose.

angelopal · 24/01/2021 08:04

Depends where you are. In Scotland only open to key workers in and vulnerable children.

In England yes, although you may not get the free hours if you join in the middle of the term. The next date for claiming is 1st April.

On the whole those attached to a school are closed to non key worker children, others are open

Mummyme87 · 24/01/2021 08:17

I’m in London and most nurseries I know of are open including the one my son goes to.
Our local school nursery opened to everyone two weeks ago.
I heard from a teacher friend that they have been told they must open or lose some funding

Lifeispassingby · 24/01/2021 08:17

Nurseries open for all, funding can begin in the middle of term but many aren’t not starting new children at the moment

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/01/2021 08:22

Some nurseries attached to schools have chosen to be open to key workers' and vulnerable children only to keep the nursery teacher working on the same basis as other teachers. They lose funding by doing this.

Thanks so much everyone that's really helpful!
