Can someone explain why not? I just don't get it. If vaccines don't end lockdown what will?

These aren't rhetorical questions, I have 2 degrees so I'm fairly well educated, but I just do not understand how this will ever end if the vaccines aren't the way out.

I'm not sure I can cope with this no-life-life beyond March.

Here is some good news from Israel. New critically ill 60+ years old (the age group that for which vaccinations commenced in Israel around 6 weeks ago) down ~9%, vs. a rise of 28% in 40-50 age group

I think they mean vaccines alone won't end lockdown. Vaccines in combination with a low "starting" level of cases will. So they need to get the cases right down, which they've decided to do through this lockdown, and then when they're low AND a decent chunk of the population are vaccinated, this should mean that the rates remain relatively low and then they can start to relax restrictions.
