Covid cough & breathlessness

Grannypants55 · 23/01/2021 11:26

I am in the throes of covid now, about the 8th day. Cough has not got any worse, but is not improving either. I'm not too bad if I'm lying on my side & I'm not having trouble breathing. As soon as I exert myself with a quick trip to the loo this results in a big coughing fit & breathlessness & I have to have a rest again. Have any sufferers had this & what did you do? Do I call 111, or push myself to have a short walk around the house to get my oxygen levels flowing? I feel like I could just lie here all day & night, sleeping.

I am in exactly the same boat although day 10 now. All the time I am lying down I don't feel too bad but when I walk about I start coughing like mad. I can breath ok but it hurts like hell if I breath in deeply. I had a dreadful night last night as had a really high temp and feel exhausted this morning. I was hoping I would be coming out the other side by now by this 2nd week is much worse.

@Icequeen01 I hope you feel better soon. I think I'm on about day 8 & its scary. I don't have a high temperature, so that's one thing to be grateful of

I hope you start to feel better too @Grannypants55 My DH and DS21 have also got it but are a few days behind me. They haven't got the cough and I hope to god they don't get it - it's so awful. I tell myself that all the time I am able to breath ok when resting it's a good thing and the more I rest the better I will become. I could be in complete denial though!

I hope you both feel much better very soon. I am having the same symptoms as you and I know the breathlessness feels scary. I have a continuous cough but a very weak one. I have tried to google whether we should rest continuously or take mild exercise, in case it makes it worse to just be sedentary 24/7 but don't seem able to find an answer.
Take good care of yourselves and get well soon.

I never developed the cough but people that did said lying on their front helped. I would just try to rest and keep a check on your oxygen levels with an oximeter.

Porcupineintherough · 23/01/2021 14:40

Yes. Just rest.

Arcadia · 23/01/2021 15:05

I would get hold of an oximeter (easy to buy online) so that you can easily check your oxygen levels at home regularly, I've had one at home for months now just in case, and they are being recommended widely now.

I have zero cough but I do experience breathlessness. I am unable to be physically active without filling like my chest is tight, I also can’t sing (not that I’m a singer but weird feeling of having not enough air to sing)

SC10 · 23/01/2021 15:39

Do you have any idea how long we are going to be like this for? I hope you soon feel better, I know it is so miserable and worrying.

whenthestarsgoblue · 23/01/2021 19:13

All I've read says week two is far worse than week one, and (most) improve by week 3. I hope you all feel better soon, you poor things x

SC10 · 23/01/2021 21:41

Thank you so much.

Grannypants55 · 25/01/2021 11:19

Thank you for all your replies. To any still suffering I say call 111 & ask for advice. They'll send out paramedic to check you over if need be. I thought it was just part of covid, but we called them to be on the safe side last night. I am now in hospital with covid pneumonia. Please all of you, if you are suffering, get yourself checked xxx

Oh, OP. I'm glad you phoned 111, and are getting seen to. I hope you start to feel better soon.

I am quite lucky (in a way). I got an oximeter and my SATS were completely normal, so I haven't had to go to hospital. However it's over 3 weeks since onset of symptoms and I'm still not able to do very much. I have found that if I push myself even a little I will pay for it, sometimes even for a couple of days afterwards. So rest!
