Boris on lead vocals tonight too! 🎸

Wonder if that means there'll be some kind of announcement, in amongst the waffling.

WalkingOnStarshine · 22/01/2021 10:03

Is it usually televised if they're making an announcement or changing anything? I assume this will just be another reminder to keep following the rules.

tootyfruitypickle · 22/01/2021 10:05

Hope it’s Whitty on back up, ready to reprimand the PM again.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/01/2021 10:06

There seems to be a lot of talk of closing borders so maybe that ?

frozendaisy · 22/01/2021 10:07

It's been a week of record number of daily deaths recorded. Of course the PM needs to be visible.

Nothing new will be announced.

AgnesNaismith · 22/01/2021 10:08

Close the borders
Legal right to furlough for parents
Scrap this term and have an extra one in June/July

That’s what I’d do anyway!

GirlCrush · 22/01/2021 10:10

Doesn’t he announce strict changes at 8pm

5pm just for waffling?

Ch3rish · 22/01/2021 10:13

It might be a vaccine update, good news maybe to counter the gloomy death figures

I don't think we are in for anything particulary new (famous last words Grin )

YogaLite · 22/01/2021 10:14

I don't think there will be any changes, just a repeat old slogans.

YogaLite · 22/01/2021 10:19

..and if they offer £500 for covid then expect more parties!

RosieLemonade · 22/01/2021 11:01

@YogaLite

..and if they offer £500 for covid then expect more parties!
But you would have to pay a fine of £800 so you would be at a loss 😁
vera99 · 22/01/2021 11:07

Hopefully, Van Tam will hold him down and Chris Whitty (whilst wearing a mask and surgical gloves) will keep punching Johnson repeatedly in the face like a demon-possessed until finally sated he rises from the floor and says "next slide please".

Exeunt stage left.

YogaLite · 22/01/2021 11:09

Not if u can get away with it.

It's a bit perverse really, all those who avoid getting it at all costs, shielding, excluded from covid benefits, unpaid carers to vulnerable are rewarded with nothing.

They will never now put a lid on covid until it mutates out unless they lock us up totally and double police force to police us.

FinallyHere · 22/01/2021 12:34

Shall we have a list of things which will not be mentioned ?

Boris "I remember you saying we should close the borders in March 2020 , Priti, wish I had listened to you " nominated for double points

tootyfruitypickle · 22/01/2021 14:34

@vera99 I’m eagerly tuning in now hoping you’re clairvoyant

AgnesNaismith · 22/01/2021 16:13

A list of things that will not be mentioned:

  • The impact of the pandemic on children
  • The impact on women’s rights
  • That we are losing our jobs and propping up the economy by doing yet more unpaid labour while they consider giving money to rule breakers
  • The fact we are not vaccinating those who will spread Covid and chasing deaths instead of infections
  • Fishing and the fuck up that Brexit has had on our supply chain
  • Import taxes
AgnesNaismith · 22/01/2021 16:14

Oh and Dominic Cummings

lunar1 · 22/01/2021 16:26

We are closing the borders and enforcing hotel quarantine at individual expense...starting in 32 days.

The following arbitrary exceptions will be made, these individuals will not be tested, tracked, traced or quarantined even if they spend the entire 10 hour flight coughing and telling people not to worry, their temperature is only 38.9

Crunchymum · 22/01/2021 16:29

8pm is usually the announcement of doom.

This will be the usual drivel.

littleowl1 · 22/01/2021 16:29

While y'all are waiting, you can check the cases and case rate for your council on www.covidmessenger.com

I've updated it with today's data release.

Things have improved a lot since lockdown started but cases are still very high (albeit generally going in the right direction).

PicsInRed · 22/01/2021 17:05

Higher mortality? Well, the good news keeps coming doesn't it? This was definitely 8pm level news.

vera99 · 22/01/2021 17:36

@tootyfruitypickle I think we have to content ourselves as least he's not Trump which is thin gruel and belies the fact that even the US under Trump had a much lower death rate. Sad

tootyfruitypickle · 22/01/2021 17:37

Whitty gave him a bit of glare but I wasn’t focusing but I think it was about lifting restrictions too early? I’m just drinking gin.
