How are group 4 identified for vaccination?

I'm interested in how CEV patients are identified for vaccination? I've got my knickers in a twist that somehow I'll fall between the crack between gp care and consultant care. I get regular shielding letters from the NHS. Is that enough to indicate that I'm in group 4? Would my gp know this?

I would have thought your GP would know. My mum is group 4 and has already been contacted by her GP to say she will receive the vaccine at home and asking if she is interested as they are expecting it to be rolled out in February.

The GP spine is the source of data. Information from the hospital will flow to that as it should for all things so a gp can maintain your continuing care. But alas as Boris would say the hospital system and GP systems aren’t integrated. It’s a clunky system and hard work for GPs to ensure that all the letters and information from hospitals are fed into the record using clinical codes.

As a pp said if you got a shielding letter you were identified from the gp spine. This generates the letter giving access to the booking system. GPs will also have you on their call list. Additionally for this group some people will be invited by the hospital team because it’s best that they are vaccinated by them for clinical reasons and practical ones.

Thank you Lemon :) thats very reassuring. Exactly the level of info I was looking for.

Thanks Purple too.

I guess that because I've had no contact from the gp surgery re shielding I was worried they didn't know.

The GP is the main source of data (according to our surgery), I have two consultants one told me to shield, one told me not to shield, my GP also said I didn’t need to shield.

I have been given my appointment (2nd Feb, the countdown is on).

Whilst GP records provide information on the Spine, along with hospital notes, and that’s what’s used to compile shielding and eligibility info, the shielding letters themselves are issued centrally not from the GP surgery.

That makes sense too Sidge. Simon that is reassuring. Thanks!

If only I hadn't wasted most of a nights sleep fretting about this. Confused

It turns out I didn't need to worry. Blush Grin

Where would you be on the list is you have had a stroke and have controlled Asthma! Not received a shielding letter.

Probably in group 6. So vulnerable but not extremely vulnerable.

I have had all the shielding letters and emails and they appear to come from a central point but it was my GP who put me on the list originally. I only know this because back in March I was unsure and spoke to my GP who said they had identified me as CEV. I've never heard anything since from GP and no vaccine appointment yet - North East rural. Friends in London who are shielding for the same reason have had theirs.
