Any advice to request vaccine ASAP

Please let me start by saying I am not wanting to jump ahead of the elderly, but please bear with me. We have been told that ECV can be invited now for the vaccine and I’m ECV.
We’ve also been told not to phone drs (and recorded message on dr website states they will not discuss vaccine appointments). Does anyone know how I can flag to the powers that be that I am working each day with students face to face in school, so that I can at least be one of the first ECV to be called?
To be clear I have chosen to continue working as I’m a Head of Year and feel that my vulnerable students need me. I could work from home, but I fought to be allowed in.
I’m really asking I suppose, I’d there a way of talking to a real person to explain my situation?
If you don’t want to give details on here because ransoms might decide to follow your tips too I understand.
I do not want to skip ahead of the higher groups - but would really like to be early in my group.

Sorry but i dont think you can or should do this. The NHS are working full out to deal with this virus and making exceptions for some will make their workload even worse. You wont be the only person thinking they should be at the head if the queue.

Ilikewinter · 21/01/2021 18:29

I think youll just have to wait your turn if the doctors have said they won't discuss the vaccine.

SimonJT · 21/01/2021 18:31

It will most likely be done by clinical need, not by job type. You’re choosing to increase your risk, this doesn’t give you the option of queue jumping.

I have my appointment, I’m personally choosing not to increase my risk as doing that could mean me needing a hospital bed etc, when me staying at home and only going out when it isn’t busy can potentially prevent that happening.

AlexaShutUp · 21/01/2021 18:33

I have no advice to offer you, but I just wanted to say that I think people like you absolutely should be the priority for vaccines because you are both ECV and working in a critical frontline role. Obviously, your need is greater than that of my elderly parents, who are able to isolate, or indeed my ECV sister who is able to do her job perfectly well from home.

I appreciate how much pressure the NHS is under, but that's precisely why we need to target the vaccines at those who are at the greatest risk.

Thank you for the sacrifices that you're making to support the children in your year group. I hope that you can get vaccinated soon.

Pillowcase123 · 21/01/2021 18:35

I can understand why you want to be bumped up the queue but its going to be done on the basis of clinical need to protect people. ECV is a large category - are you really saying you believe because you want to work in school rather than home, you should get it first rather than someone who would be at a greater risk of dying from the virus?

Wait your turn

AnyFucker · 21/01/2021 18:36

Turn

ThatVeganFeminist · 21/01/2021 18:38

Of course you can't. Stay home until you get the vaccine.

Helspopje · 21/01/2021 18:38

CEV are being actively booked either via gp based on the shielding list or via your consultant team based on the shielding criteria. There isn’t a defined ‘order’ within the group

If that applies, then perhaps contact your specialty nurse specialist to ask the process?

I was vaccinating today and our super organised rheumatology colleagues appear to have been booking theirs in already. We’ve just got going in haematology at our unit but will be well underway within a couple of days.

blue25 · 21/01/2021 18:38

You have to wait your turn like everyone else. Lots of people (incorrectly) think they should be prioritised.

Helspopje · 21/01/2021 18:39

And please don’t think vaccinating will mean you don’t need to shield any longer, it won’t.

Workyticket · 21/01/2021 18:42

Your reason for vulnerability will dictate your place in the queue. You're choosing to martyr yourself by going against guidelines (if the stay at home and shield applies to you)

Who did you fight to be allowed to go in to work? Imagine how they'll feel if you fall ill and could have been at home.

blanketyblankpen · 21/01/2021 18:43

Our local doctors are calling people in last minute to save wasting vaccine. Why don't you write them a letter explaining your situation and saying you'd be happy to be called in at the drop of a hat (assuming that's possible for you, it's usually after 5pm or on a weekend) they can only say no!

SchrodingersUnicorn · 21/01/2021 18:44

Only a few areas are onto ECV, most aren't so it might be another month yet before you hear.

GintyMcGinty · 21/01/2021 18:46

I agree with most other people - you will get your vaccine in turn based on clinical needs.

Spied · 21/01/2021 18:46

It's your choice to go in to school.
You aren't at risk of losing your job if you stay home -unlike thousands of others who need to be in the workplace.
I really think you should stay home (and count your lucky stars you haven't already caught the virus after putting yourself unnecessarily in this position).

Kitkat151 · 21/01/2021 18:47

@SimonJT

100% this ^ Your choice to not WFH
MoirasRoses · 21/01/2021 18:49

We are onto the ECV category in my area. My mum has dental surgery coming up and she is ECV. Her dentist (hospital based, it’s fairly major surgery) told her to call & ask for an appointment. She got one 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was deemed reasonable she be vaccinated & protected given the severe & limiting amount of pain she’s in m, she’s living off soup & yoghurt.. it is possible to ‘jump the queue’ so to speak. Call 119. I’m not sure jobs will count though unfortunately. They should but 🤷🏼‍♀️

Spottyspottyladybird · 21/01/2021 18:49

I can understand why you want the vaccine. However, like previous people have said it will be done on clinical need. You chose to go into school when really you should be working from home. That was your choice and it won’t be a reason for you to be prioritised over someone that didn’t make that choice.

Annietheacrobat · 21/01/2021 18:50

Are you known to a hospital team? You might be able to access the vaccine faster through them.

I work in a specialty with many ECV patients and as of this week we have been able to get them vaccinated at the hospital

happyjack12 · 21/01/2021 18:50

If you are ECV, you will have been advised to shield, you have chosen not to follow the guidelines ?

Aside from that- you need to wait your turn like everyone else.

FuckMuppet · 21/01/2021 18:50

"Please let me start by saying I am not wanting to jump ahead of the elderly"

No, you want to jump ahead of other extremely vulnerable people.

It makes me despair how people can be so self centred. You chose to go into work and increase your risk, someone CEV could argue that as they chose not to work and took the financial hit, they should go in front of you so they can get back to work safely. Someone CEV could argue they have caring responsibilities and should be prioritised. Lots of us have reasons for wanting to go first, like a school dinner queue.

All this I want to be prioritised (and that is what you're saying) is very fucking unedifying.

Alexandernevermind · 21/01/2021 18:51

I agree with what everyone else has said, although once they filter the vaccine into the lower, or working age groups that they give all front facing workers priority. Not priority in terms of health or age however, that would be unacceptable.
Front facing workers should include teachers, supermarket and shop workers, police officers, prison wardens, probation officers etc, etc.

majesticallyawkward · 21/01/2021 18:51

The problem is that everyone will have a reason they are more important than someone else and the scale of the vaccinations means that taking endless phone calls from people who believe they should be a priority just isn't feasible.

You will get your vaccine, but I doubt there's any way to do what you want to do. I tried to find a number to contact our hub earlier because my neighbour has booked theirs online but forgot when and didn't get their booking reference (not confident using the internet and didn't know what they were doing) and there are no contact details.

I agree teachers (not just cev ones) should be getting their jabs, but where does it stop and what is the correct order? Teachers, HCPs, shop workers, care staff, delivery drivers, nursery staff, transport, utilities.... you see where I'm going? Not everyone can be at the top of the list and can you imagine the amount of time it would take of everyone in a critical job wanted to call to let them know they were important and needed their jab sooner?

user1471453601 · 21/01/2021 18:54

You can not jump the queue, that's the bad news. The good is that the omni vaccine calculator shows that the 70 and over, and those who have been classed as cev, are due to be vaccinated at the end of january, middle of February. I'm both

NecklessMumster · 21/01/2021 18:54

Look on your gp website....mine has made a reserve list for front line workers if they get no shows
