Can we unlock the schools at start of Feb?

I'm totally supportive of the lockdown BUT by the end of next week, case numbers nationally will be the same as they were at end of November. Hospital admissions are falling again.

Rather than going back into tiers with the shops and food pubs open (where all the spreading happened in December), can we not issue all the teachers with N95 masks (and vaccines for the clinically vulnerable), make all the kids wear triple layer face masks all the time, and just get on with the important job of educating this country's kids in person? Starting again 1st of Feb.

AIBU to ask if we can send the kids back as soon as we hit the case rate we unlocked at on 2nd December?

IABU= no way, the cases will shoot up too quickly again, even if they all wear masks all day.

IANBU = yes, get them back before half term, the only reason it went nuts in December was because everyone was out Christmas shopping and seeing family.

@3asAbird not at cat's chance in hell I've got anything to do with them.

Perhaps try reading through all my posts in order, eh?

This is about proving a point with the government & our kids are the pawns.

I suspect that believing this is how twats4themselves and their shills sleep easy at night

You language is vulgar! I really hope you are not a teacher.
noblegiraffe · 24/01/2021 20:59

Well that confirms it.

Flinstones · 24/01/2021 21:08

I have nothing to do with any group at all. I just have a different opinion from the likes of you! I've noticed on here that's the tactic used, those that have a different opinion particularly those that actually want there children to go back to school are just called awful names & bullied into not commenting.
I don't know anyone in real life who thinks like any of you.
It's boring that the only comment you have is about belonging to a particular group!

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 24/01/2021 21:11

They only closed schools as a last resort and even then they are open to all vulnerable children. It isn't being done lightly.

Not a fan of this government but they are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Piggywaspushed · 24/01/2021 21:14

the likes of you and any of you are pretty rude comments, to be honest.

So petty

Oh no, gutted.

We all want children to go back to school, but some off us want to do so in a way that is sensible, safe and sustainable.

But again you believe whatever helps you sleep at night.

Proving my point yet again

Don’t be daft, you were clocked ages ago.

They’re all really bad at this.

Piggywaspushed · 24/01/2021 21:34

Could you explain why my comment was petty? I was merely pointing out that your tone was pretty offensive whilst accusing noble and whoever the likes of you are of being unpleasant.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 24/01/2021 21:39

I agree with you about the bully tactics and belittling of posters.

It is wrong nasty and unnecessary. Why people can't just debate nicely I have no idea.

That actually applies for both sides of the schools going back argument.

Sure is a poster is being hateful or deliberately talking rubbish go for them. However a lot of posters are just saying their thoughts on the subject.

You lost any credibility when you accused those that disagreed with you of using children as pawns.

So you really don't have the high ground here.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 24/01/2021 21:44

@LickEmbysmiling

Many supermarkets have closed due to outbreaks, including tesco in greater Manchester and over 400 staff were tested, a staff member died many other shops have had to close.

I don't understand the lack of compassion that states... They go down the coal mine in an earthquake, so why don't you?.

I wonder however, can the US for themselves volunteere in some way? Obviously with dbs checks..

Could they help in classrooms whilst teachers use remote teaching?

I can imagine that would defeat their objective Grin
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 24/01/2021 21:51

@Christmasfairy2020

From talking to a number of comp teachers they like wfh or in school via video because they do not have to deal with shouting at naught kids whom are talking and misbehaving its basically ill teach and its upto you if you listen or not
A lot of teenagers are also saying they like being taught online because the class is muted. They can actually hear the teacher speak.

Depending on the type of school and catchment or pure unluckness you get classes that are rowdy. Not actually sure that is the teachers fault. In class they use tactics to deal with this. Online they can use a mute button. Pretty sure which I would prefer.

Personally I think the teachers union should be asking for the government to add a mute button to all class rooms before schools go back Grin

I don't care about what you think, I have an opinion that the children are being used & I do not believe everything is being done to get them back. It's different to yours but does not make me wrong or belong to a group. If I belonged to any group I would have no issue saying! Why would I?
noblegiraffe · 24/01/2021 21:56

Truely until you have been deliberately targeted and abused by a shady political campaign group with dubious funding sources over a prolonged period of time, I suggest you don’t try to tell me how to react.

FrippEnos · 24/01/2021 21:58

Flinstones

I don't care about what you think,

Good for you, join the club.

I have an opinion that the children are being used

They are being used by groups such as twats4themselves and the government (the government has been using them for years)

& I do not believe everything is being done to get them back.

Oh look common ground, something that we can agree on.

It's different to yours but does not make me wrong or belong to a group.

Doesn't make anyone wrong

If I belonged to any group I would have no issue saying! Why would I?

Because anyone that belongs to twats4themselves should be ashamed of themselves.

@Flinstones

I just don't understand why people on here can't see how awful keeping the schools shut is for children! COVID is awful but prioritising the old for the young is awful & insane. My son works in a supermarket & he is much more exposed & had many more covid cares in there than any local school by us. Time to step up like everyone else has & work together to open schools for ALL.
Agreed. I know.so many people working in warehouses and factories where I live. They come in close contact with at least an equivalent of 30. They just have to get on with it. If you think their big corporate companies they work for are making workplaces covid safe think again! No it shouldn't be a race to the bottom, but if you have huge amounts of people having to do this of course they're going to think teachers should have the professional integrity to get on with it too.

a shady campaign group yes

My DNA means I have a pretty good idea how that feels. However I get your point.

My post was not actually directed at just you else I would have mentioned you or added one of your messages.

It was a general statement of how these threads read. Step back read them through impartial eyes. Both sides often have posters or groups of posters that don't actually want to calmly discuss anything.

Such an important subject to people. I would love to see one thread that involved calmly explaining why certain ideas are wrong or won't work in practice.

Anyway whatever humbug to all these identical threads

noblegiraffe · 24/01/2021 22:29

Calmly discuss with Us4Them? When they are part of the reason we are in the mess we are in? When they have successfully campaigned for lower safety standards in schools and less protection for teachers and there have been deaths as a result?
When they are now desperately backtracking on twitter and claiming that they aren’t anti-safety measures in schools when we know that they had lawyers at the ready to take legal action against heads who mandated masks in classrooms because they bloody proudly announced it in the Daily Mail?

They’re a bunch of liars who have been trying to astroturf Mumsnet with their shitty and dangerous views since they formed. And they keep coming back to try again.

They keep being given airtime to spread misinformation. They need robustly challenging and calling out when they pretend to be genuine posters spouting exactly the same lines as they always do.
