I know nobody really knows, but was wondering if anyone is in ‘the know’ and has any insider info.
My best friend is due her baby end of March and she lives 200 miles away.
I was planning on going mid April and staying in a premier inn or similar, as she doesn’t have a spare bedroom and I thought she’d have enough on her plate. Also that we may not be able to mix inside households by then.

Does anyone know how likely it is that premier inns or other similar places will be taking bookings for mid April? I really want to meet her newborn, but I know I may not be able to.

There is no insider info.

You'll have to wait for the govt announcement like everyone else.

movingonup20 · 21/01/2021 09:20

The hotels will open once the government opens up travel. A complete guess is perhaps Easter if the numbers continue drop off as sharply as they are now. However its highly unlikely they are going to permit household mixing beyond immediate family prior to the vaccination levels reaching 50% at least

There's no insider info when we're dealing with a virus that is both unpredictable and widespread.

Some of them are open, DH has been staying in one since 2nd January.

LaLoose · 21/01/2021 10:05

From what I can see they are all open (central London)

Spidey66 · 21/01/2021 10:08

I think at present many are being used to house street homeless. At least they are in London.

I work in a budget chain Hotel and we are still open, only for "work travel and other essential reasons" but we aren't asking anyone their reason for travel.

Iv just booked a hotel
For October which we had to cancel last year, I’m
Hoping we can go lol

SpaceRaiders · 21/01/2021 10:16

Airbnb’s and self catering are still open. You may find that they require additional information on the reason for travel and may decline your booking if you’re not strictly following local guidelines or your reason isn’t classed as essential.

we have a holiday cottage and a glampsite. At the moment we have a long let in the cottage, which is allowed, as the people are using it as their main residence.
We have bookings for April 2nd for holidays, but am doubtful that we will go from lockdown into a free for all, I would imagine we will open schools in a staggered fashion after Easter, but have some kind of tier system as before, to prevent movement around the country, especially between hot spots.
given we were in one of the highest rate areas before this lockdown I suspect we may not open then, and will need to shift the bookings forwards like last year. I would imagine, realistically, that we may end up like we did before, with restrictions in place until the summer holidays
howver this is pure speculation

This would be linked to the purposes for staying, as others have explained. For work reasons it's possible, theoretically, but in most areas will strongly seem to conflict with local and essential journeys. A friend lives in London, booked a room in London in order to be able to use it and the wifi connection for a long, private online meeting in the daytime but didn't stay - got a massively suspicious reception from the hotel (and a room with no natural light).

Last year the first date possible for leisure bookings, which was loaded before this was confirmed by the Govt (so booking for then would have been a big gamble) was 4th July. It was showing as possible to book for one hotel that was part of a smallish chain about 3 weeks before, and as far as I knew, with no rumours about that being a reliable date. This doesn't really mean anything as regards this year, but hotel sites might be indicative if you check back on them (e.g. if they're closed or showing as unbookable at this time now).

Sage advice is no hospitality before May at the earliest on R4 about half an hour ago

emmathedilemma · 21/01/2021 13:59

Premier Inn seem to be taking bookings for the end of March / early April. Book a room on a cancellable rate with no pre-payment and then you've got something reserved if you are permitted to travel.
