Pubs and restaurants

I work in a pub as a chef. Reading other threads about a possible Easter starting point for relaxation I would imagine the schools would reopen before us.
In my mind I had thought we would be off until April. Now I am thinking later.
What does anyone else think.?

I read something about May for pubs but it could be complete rubbish.

AcornAutumn · 20/01/2021 20:27

Last year pubs reopened in July.

Not saying it's right, I'd not have closed them. But that's optimistic I think, June/July.

Floralapron · 20/01/2021 20:46

I think May, maybe Easter, but table service only and can only go with support bubble or household.

CaramelE150d · 20/01/2021 22:29

I also think May, and understand that’s what the government are aiming for behind the scenes (although that could be nonsense).

Quaagars · 21/01/2021 00:46

I'd love for the pubs and restaurants to be open again, for a sense of normality, something to do apart from going for a walk - hope it's soon as last summer when they were reopened they were under strict social distancing rules and felt perfectly safe to be in.
I don't think they're the main cause of spreading, as it's easy to social distance if your tables are away from others.
Hoping they gradually reopen them around Easter

My husband works in the pub trade. The general noise is that pubs will re-open early May.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 21/01/2021 07:57

I think it will be deliberately after Easter (because vax programme won't have gone far enough on first jabs, let alone full course) and they are already talking about the need to avoid an 'armistice' surge.

Return to school sites might happen on a limited basis after half term, but I'd be surprised if remote learning ended for all before the summer term. And the appearances of 'pubs v schools' is likely to feature (to the pub trade's detriment)

More off sales might be permitted - possibly when rule of 6 is reintroduced

RosieLemonade · 21/01/2021 08:22

I imagine pubs will become a seasonal thing. Open May- October each year.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 21/01/2021 08:45

@RosieLemonade I can’t imagine that- that’s quite ridiculous and not remotely sustainable even short term- plus, Christmas/New Year is, in normal times, huge business for pubs and restaurants. Of all the things that might come out of this bloody pandemic, pubs and restaurants being summer/early autumn only for the rest of days will not be one of them. What are all the staff meant to do for the rest of the year? The breweries? The landlords? Confused

louisejxxx · 21/01/2021 08:47

I think if we’re going back into the tier system, which it sounds like we are, it could end up being earlier/later in different regions.

User133847 · 21/01/2021 08:49

It'll be April/early May. Problem is, if it's back to tiers then tier 3 or 4 = no pubs, tier 2 = table service only, social distancing and substantial meals only means most pubs can't operate anyway. Even without the meal rule most will lose money.

Not a chance. They wouldn't survive, December is a huge month for pubs.

I hope not as that would suggest we’ll be in lockdown from November to April which would mean pubs (and other industries affected by lockdown) would be finished

Not a chance!

What do people who work in the industry do during the "closed" months? How ridiculous.

whatisforteamum · 21/01/2021 09:35

Iamchipmunk thank you.My thoughts are April or May.
My pub is being returned so I take that as a sign of confidence that we will reopen.
We were in tier 2 before Xmas and looking at the rates of infection we have dropped below average.
My thoughts are with all the hospitality industry.Such an uncertain time.
