Mass testing in Liverpool - questions

IamAporcupine · 20/01/2021 16:53

Apologies in advance, I've googled it but cannot find all the info

1- is the mass testing still going on?
2- if you received a home kit back in November but didn't use it at the time, can you use it now?

As far as I can tell, NO is the answer to both of these questions, but could anyone confirm please? Thanks in advance

Mass testing is being quietly shelved. Matt Hancock and his chums are hoping that no one will notice as they laugh all the way to the bank...

Thanks @Billie18, that's what I gathered....

I'm in the north west and work for a company where it's not always easy to social distance. We have recently had the army in to set us up for regular testing. We were chosen by the council and I believe they are setting up other testing sites in similar type businesses. I'm currently being tested twice a week

We have walk in test centres where you can have a test whenever you want, is that what you mean?
Walk in PCR if you have symptoms and lateral tests for no symptoms.

movingonup20 · 20/01/2021 18:03

It is still happening, a centre opened on Monday here

IamAporcupine · 20/01/2021 19:05

Thank you very much everyone

@kingkuta - as far as I could see the lateral test for no symptoms are only for front line workers, not the general public.

I'm in Liverpool mass testing centres are still very much active 7 days a week, I assume there must be a demand for the service as they regularly put out messages saying that those in KW jobs, others working out the home or have caring responsibilities should be priority for the tests ie don't turn up for a test every week I've you've not been through the door. No signs of anything being shelved here.

kingkuta · 20/01/2021 21:09

IamAporcupine they are for anyone at all and you can have as many as you want. I have a test centre within walking distance and another 2 within a 10 minute drive that I could access whenever I wanted. I know quite a few people that have them every week. They are used a lot.

I’m on the Wirral, so just the other side of the Mersey, and ours are still open but now apparently appointment only whereas they were walk in until recently. They say it’s to prioritise keyworkers and those who have to work outside the home but apparently, anyone asymptomatic can request a slot for a test.

Anonanon12 · 20/01/2021 21:21

For those who have these mass testing sites, has it had any effect on the local cases?

Howmanysleepsnow · 20/01/2021 21:35

Yes, they’re still open. It had a huge effect when combined with tier 3 and cases dropped rapidly. Then we went to tier 2 and they went through the roof again.
19% of daily positive cases in Liverpool in the week ending the 15th January were LFT for people without symptoms, so uptake is good.

Thank you everyone!
