Covid Walk Potholes

I’ve walked around the streets of my local area that much in the last 9 months that I know every pothole, bump, lump and puddle within a mile radius. Got some really good ones too - the big round one near the entrance to the park is a stunner, I call it “The Abyss”. I’ll take a photo next time I’m out.

Grin

We have mud trenches of doom.

😀

I saw a bunch of geese in one of ours a few months ago, having a wee bath.

Tbf we are generally a very gooseful place here but it's come to something when the wildlife thinks that potholes are ponds. Because they are.

Why don't councils repair roads any more? Serious question.

Why don't councils repair roads any more? Serious question.

Councils are increasingly cash-strapped, mainly.

I also believe that it's cheaper to leave the holes, and make it as difficult as possible for people to claim damage from driving over a pothole, than it is to repair them. Sometimes it's not just a case of filling in the hole, the entire section of road needs to be redone (according to DB, who Knows About These Things).

We have a lot of cobbled streets, protected by the conservation area. They look great but are challenging to navigate for the unwary.

Yeah that makes sense.

Christ, what a shambles the UK is.

I was actually (almost) disappointed when the council filled in a particularly large pot hole near me. It felt different without it!

LakeGeneva · 20/01/2021 11:27

We also have a fair amount of cobbled streets.

Pretty, but completely incompatible with equality legislation. Although nobody seems to care. Instead our council spends its money on creating no car zones, so that not only are you unable to walk anywhere, you can't drive either.

Maybe it's a plot to enable MAMILs to take over the world.

Take photos and report the potholes to your council. It might help speed things up (repairs I mean, not traffic).
