Will schools or soft play etc be open first

My friend is adamant soft play, theme parks and bowling all be open before schools.

I personally think it should be the other way round and rightly so.
I said our cases are high here. Higher than the England average. So if goes back to tiers. I can't see the 'fun' stuff being open until after Easter holidays.

Maybe I'm wrong. What do others think

She may be thinking that furlough ends at the end of April (unless it gets extended) therefore most businesses will have to be able to open then to pay the staff

LadyCatStark · 19/01/2021 18:15

It better be schools!

EatingAllTheCookies · 19/01/2021 18:16

No it's because her PFB is bored and has season passes for most attractions and generally goes daily when he's not at pre school. (hers is key worker only) or goes after if he's half day.
She thinks it's more important kids are entertained!
But then again she thinks lockdown is pathetic and is travelling miles to diff supermarkets daily for something to do to get him out the house.

I'm trying to reason with her and explain it all. She doesn't watch the news at all only follows what she sees on SM. So it's hard explaining

She doesn't know what furlough is!

Schools first

redsquirrelfan · 19/01/2021 18:20

I'd have thought soft play along with indoor mass gatherings will be right at the end!

Bowling - not sure.

Theme parks are mainly outside, so that's different and I imagine they will be able to reopen relatively quickly but with far fewer people than they would have had in 2019.

3littlewords · 19/01/2021 18:20

Sounds more like wishful thinking on her part then good luck to her

BogRollBOGOF · 19/01/2021 18:22

Schools. They are essential for education (and social development, not just academics) and keeping society flowing.
Soft play opens at tier 2?

CovidPostingName · 19/01/2021 18:30

If she's this thick, I couldn't be friends with her.

SeldomFollowedIt · 19/01/2021 19:25

Sounds like a thick shit. Couldn’t be doing with her.

frozendaisy · 19/01/2021 19:38

Outdoor sport first
Swimming next
Schools with bubbles......gradually reduced
Soft play

Scottishgirl85 · 19/01/2021 21:06

Schools will open 1st, even though not the safest thing to open 1st. Other activities will be sacrificed to balance the numbers to allow for an increase in cases due to schools. And rightly so. Children need an education.

Whatsmyusername30 · 19/01/2021 21:09

Although the schools opened somewhat last June most things were opened before schools in September. I do think schools should be prioritised before anything else. Easier said than done.

Soft plays are my idea of hell during this. A few weeks before Christmas myself and mil took Dd to one (I wasn’t keen and we were in tier 1 so could go with someone else). I just felt anxious and stressed the whole time. It was really clean but so many kids in close contact with each other touching everything. 😷🤢

CaptainMerica · 19/01/2021 21:43

Soft play in scotland hasn't been allowed to open since March. My 3yo has completely forgotten about it. I just can't imagine wanting to go at the moment though.

Greenygrape · 19/01/2021 23:30

Last time it was pubs, theme parks and cinema opened first.

So not unreasonable to think that could happen again.

It depends on whether teachers think they're safe, not necessarily cases in the area.

StatisticalSense · 20/01/2021 02:53

I can't see how it can be schools first as the mental health impacts of lockdown are equally effecting the childless and to allow some parts of society to begin to return to normal whilst others are stuck at home would be extremely damaging for the mental health of many. Equally I doubt soft play will be first because again it is a sector that is largely frequented by one demographic. The first easings need to be things like retail and pubs that are beneficial to the widest cross section of society.

MotorwayDiva · 20/01/2021 07:22

Schools first, and if your friend had school age children she'd be saying the same I think
Soft play is one demographic I agree, but younger children aren't passing it on, we went last time we were in tier two, I have the covid app on my phone and never heard of any cases from there.

FreeFallingFree · 20/01/2021 07:32

Schools, firstly because of the education and mental health benefits for children.

Secondly, because people working at the theme parks, soft play and bowling will have school age children to home school. It's not possible to open up the economy until schools and holiday childcare provision resume.

Forgot about this thread
Yes I think schools first. The theme park closest to me is allowing tickets to be booked from March.
