Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and the side effects

LeSquigh · 19/01/2021 06:44

Morning all

Many of my colleagues have now received the first dose of the Oxford vaccine and every single one of them has reported side effects, quite a large number have had to take time off work and been bedridden. Are we in the minority or is this true for all that have it? Not really looking forward to my turn!

Had Oxford jab last Thursday. My arm more painful now and I keep flushing up and feeling rubbish

RosesAndHellebores · 08/03/2021 08:34

I'm having mine this evening. Will report back tomorrow. Mother and MIL (and step) have had theirs and were absolutely fine at 85, 85 and 77!

Teapotsandtablecloths · 08/03/2021 08:37

I had the astra jab and had a very sore arm, fever and chills, very achey and a blinding headache. I had it on Friday. Saturday, I was bed ridden with a blinding headache, fever and chills, aching joints and a bit wheezy, it felt like the flu. On Sunday i felt a lot better but still had a blinding headache. I'm 27.

My mum who is 56 had the same jab and was completely fine.

LH1987 · 08/03/2021 09:01

Had it yesterday was up most of the night getting sick and shivering. Though I have woken up feeling better now. I declared myself an anti vaxer at about 3am but I have now gotten over my dramatics Grin

emmetgirl · 08/03/2021 09:09

I had it on Saturday and haven't had a single side effect!

Justwatchthewildflowersgrow · 08/03/2021 09:19

I've had the Oxford astrazeneca. I got side effects but I have 2 young children so no time off for me. I still managed to look after them and continue the day to day tasks although there was a lot more coffee that day. I just made sure we had an easy day. After a day or so it was all gone. I have asthma which is why I got mine.

Rudens · 08/03/2021 09:23

DH had it on Saturday, I'm still waiting for mine. He had fever for 48 hours and tiredness, but after 48 hours he is back to normal

dogsaremypeople · 08/03/2021 09:25

I had mine on Sat and had no symptoms at all, just a slightly sore arm- no different to the flu jab.

Lovinglifeand · 08/03/2021 09:26

If anyone is wondering whether they should have the jab because they are worried about the side effect? Don't be.

I had bad side effects for 4 days but they were all manageable with paracetamol etc. I was just grateful the whole time that I now had the jab and I knew my body was responding so a protection was in place. It was SO worth it.

It is nothing to be worried about

tiredteacher100 · 08/03/2021 09:45

I actually think that if this thread is scaring people into not getting the jab it should be taken down. The side effects are on the nhs website. They are not severe. Please get the jab if you are offered it, for your own sake and for your loved ones sake

ilovenuts · 08/03/2021 09:49

This is my experience but do not be put off and please note that I had Covid over New Year. My main symptoms were severe headaches, dizziness, loss of smell and taste, brain fog and tinnitis.

I had the Oxford jab yesterday so I am not even 10 weeks on from infection yet and still have some headaches and taste and smell not back to normal yet.

I had the jab in the afternoon and felt ok, just tired that evening. I have had a bad night though, hot and cold, 2 awful nightmares and I feel like I have been run over by a bus, EVERYTHING aches, even my teeth and eyeballs. I also have a fever.

I have managed to get up and about and am going to take it easy. Not had any paracetamol yet, I know I should and from what I have read it does not affect the vaccine working properly or the immune response but I want my temp to start to come down naturally and then I will take the painkillers.

So maybe I feel so rotten as I have just had Covid but hopefully it will only be for today. I am so glad that I have had it and hope to finally stop stressing about this illness. So grateful to the scientists, they are amazing.

Don't be put off. I will definitely be having my 2nd jab.

mooshie06 · 08/03/2021 10:20

I’m also not put off despite a couple of ropey days and will definitely get my second jab. Covid has loomed over us for a year now and I can’t believe how lucky I’ve been to have had a vaccine against it. Please get your jabs if you’re offered it - the biggest side effect by far is a sense of relief ❤️

AliceSprings123 · 08/03/2021 10:25

I had my first jab, AZ, 13/2 and groaned miserably in bed for 3 days. Sips of water only. I'd thought my reaction was so strong cos all my lymph nodes were taken from my l.side years ago as part of my BC treatment, hence extreme reaction. Nevertheless I've got my 2nd booked for 1st May and though I'm prepared for a similar reaction, it might not happen, and even if it does,it's worth it in the long run.
Roll on 1st May!

LemonSherbetFancies · 08/03/2021 12:12

Most who have posted here have had days of feeling really ill.
It's definitely put me off, sounds horrific. Even worse than the virus itself in most cases. Confused

AnxietyDrivingMyLife · 08/03/2021 12:46

@LemonSherbetFancies it does for me too - not sure what I’ll do when my turn comes.

Me too! And all the comments of ‘oh don’t be put off by it’ don’t really help!
LemonSherbetFancies · 08/03/2021 13:01

I have said it before but I can't be laid up for days in bed ill because of it.
Seems to be the tiny minority who have actually been ok and that is pretty terrifying.
I know people who have had coronavirus who didn't have symptoms as bad as these being spoken about on here. Confused

Martinisarebetterdirty · 08/03/2021 13:11

I think that people will post with side effects and won’t if they haven’t had them. I have found this thread so useful, I posted I had a very painful arm (not just sore - I couldn’t sleep for the pain). I was worried as the side effects are listed as sore arm - well sore is subjective but I generally have a pretty high pain threshold and this was unbearable. I wanted to know if it was normal or if something could have gone wrong. If people didn’t post I would have ended up wasting my doctor’s time by asking them. Thankfully it is now nearly better and down to a dull ache on rare occasions (two weeks post jab). Am I looking forward to my second jab - not at all but I’ll still have it.

Some people get unpleasant side effects of the vaccine, but more people die from Covid. Have the vaccine.

chillied · 08/03/2021 13:24

luckily my jab was Saturday, I was unwell sunday but I'm fine today therefore I haven't had to take any time off work.

In contrast to having covid last year when I had 2 weeks off work.

LH1987 · 08/03/2021 13:49

I did feel terrible last night after the vaccine (vomiting, fever etc) but it really made me wonder if this was an example of how I would have felt if I caught COVID but worse and for longer? So in that sense it is definitely worth feeling poorly for a while. I would have no hesitation getting the second jab.

goldendog · 08/03/2021 13:51

An update from me. Had vaccine Sat morning then unwell with temperature and chills from Saturday night into Sunday morning. I improved through the day and woke up this morning absolutely fine. So I was completely over the side effects within 36 hours. It is definitely worth the short period of unpleasant symptoms to be protected from the full blown disease. And of course you are likely to have no reaction at all to the vaccine. So I would urge anyone offered the vaccine to seize the opportunity!

CarrieMoonbeams · 08/03/2021 14:54

Aww @Sapphire544, bless you, that's such a sad post. Sad

I had my AZ injection yesterday afternoon, and have zero side effects whatsoever - not even a sore arm - and walked the dogs for 2 hours this morning. I took Paracetamol about 4 hours after the injection, just in case, but I was fine and dandy so haven't taken any more since. I'm 58.

I'm a wee cold tattie all the time, so I'll just have to give you a wee icy handhold I'm afraid. Oh and a hug, I'm a good hugger 🤗

Hugs to anyone else who's worried too, and I hope those of you who feel ill are better soon Flowers

MouthAche · 08/03/2021 14:54
