Childcare after 10 days isolation question

I currently have covid, got tested last wednesday and my isolation period finishes on the 25th. I'm isolating with my teenage son but due to go back to work on the night of the 27th where the grandparents were planning to look after him. He is asymptomatic so far and i'm on day 6 of symptoms. They have told me tonight that they don't want to look after him in case my son has caught covid off me on day 9 and then goes on to infect them (understandably as they are vulnerable). Has anyone else had issues with this and how did you get round it?

Could you get your son tested, I know you should only test if you have symptoms, but I think in your case I would get child tested, just tick one of the symptoms. Or get a home test delivered and test son on day 9/10.

Completely understandable. I wouldn’t want my older relatives looking after him either. Give it another week just to be sure. A test won’t help as he could develop it the day after and you wouldn’t know.

I dont blame them. I'd give it 10 days after your isolation finishes to be on the safe side. If he's a teen he should be ok without them for a few days.

How old a teen, can he be left on his own?

Do you have any mass testing centres nearby for people without symptoms you could take him too ? Results are back within the hour usually

thanks to everyone who has responded - the situation has now changed and my son now has covid too :-( work have given me annual leave for the 27th so the childcare issue is now resolved. Looks like we are both isolating until the end of January
