Any A&E nurses/doctors about?

My elderly relative has been in A&E since Saturday. He is still on the waiting list for a bed. Realistically I know he will be low priority and he is in a bad way. Sad I just want to know will he be being well cared for?

He is the most sociable person you could wish to meet and my heart is breaking that he might be left alone.

Hello didn't want to leave this unanswered. I don't work in A&E but am a hospital medic. He won't be alone, he is likely in a clinical decision unit (sometimes called AMU or CDU). He will be getting meals and drinks, he will have been seen by the addmitting team.

Has he had a positive test or is he waiting for a general ward?

As stretched as they are, I'm sure they're keeping an eye on him x.

Does he not have his phone?

He will be being cared for, don't worry. He won't have been abandoned. He'll be given food and drink and his personal care needs met. He'll be checked on every 2 hours minimum.

The bed manager will be searching everywhere for a bed, hopefully he'll be found somewhere soon. Community Hospitals are opening previously closed beds for patients that need care so he may be transferred elsewhere.

Thanks for answering.
He had Covid just before Christmas, he made it home on oxygen but he’s never really recovered and deteriorated since then.

Last spoke to him on Saturday when he went in and he sounded terrible. I’ve not spoken to him since. I’m not next of kin so I don’t want to be hounding people who are already overstretched. I’m just worrying about him being alone and scared.

Give the hospital a ring, they may not have your details on file.
