Track and trace

Yesterday (16th)my dd, 4, has had a positive covid test. She was a close contact of someone who tested positive on Wednesday. I expected a call from track and trace but I haven't heard anything! Is this because she is a child? Or is this one of the flaws in our system. The rest of our house currently tested negative.

Have you been directed to the online website and filled in all the contact information?

DH did that and added me and we got the texts to isolate. He did get a call several days after to ask more on symptoms and because he never and therefore didn't have a fever they said we could go out after the 10 days were up.

So maybe they would have contacted him in person earlier if he hadn't filled out all the online info and ticked the legal stuff.

It can take days. It is a very flawed system. I know people who've been contacted after a week and been happily going about their business as normal during that time (not with symptoms)

Agree with @yearinyearout, reports are that it only works sometimes.

You should tell everyone you (well, your DD) were in contact with, as far as is possible.

This ladies and gentlemen, is Boris’s world beating system. So proud.

Skinnyjeansandaloosetop · 17/01/2021 06:46

My kids got positive test results yesterday also and we had track and trace on the phone for them yesterday too. It’s gone through the family so these people are like dear friends now. I’m never off the phone to them...

perfectdoesntexist · 17/01/2021 07:16

@Merriwicks my DD 4 is also isolating due to being a close contact of positive case confirmed on Wednesday (last contact was Tuesday) I am wondering what symptoms your DD had?

Agree with many others there seems to be flaws with the contact tracing, seems to be far from consistent

BigTroubleLittleEngland · 17/01/2021 07:25

We had a call the same day ds got a positive result through. I was very surprised. I wonder though if they assess and prioritise them because it was clear on the form I'd filled in to get the test that he'd been at school during the days before the test and so was potentially exposing many people. Now i wonder if because schools are closed would they maybe treat it as less of a priority?

Test and trace
Track and trace is the post office parcel system

ChristmasCovid · 17/01/2021 07:50

If she tested positive yesterday, you will have been sent a link either by text or email - the link is to fill in details of your daughters close contacts and places she has been.
Once the link has been sent you have approx 24 hours to fill it in before test & trace start to call you for the details if it hasn’t been completed.
It is probably in your best interest to fill it in yourself online as the call can be lengthy.

I tested positive in October and am still awaiting my call..... thankfully I am an HCP so knew what to do and who to inform. I hadn't been anywhere but work for the whole week before and DH and the DC had been home all week too (half term, but nowhere open to go to).

I still think it is terrible though that no one called!

Merriwicks · 17/01/2021 12:44

Luckily as she was a close contact she had been isolating so actually hasn't been anywhere. I am a HCP as well so know what should be happening. I just think for those that don't though this is terrible. I did get a code through for covid app. Still awaiting a call though. My daughters close contact says they were hounded by the tracing team.

@perfectdoesntexist
She didn't have any of the common symptoms. Neither did her close contact.
My daughter is a little more tired than usual and her temp raised by 1 degree above her normal but not enough to be classed as a temp. She is more easy to tears. But overall still well

Glad to hear she is keeping well. I was curious about symptoms before getting tested, DD is fine with no changes since contact 5 days. Did you get a test because you noticed the temp?

Merriwicks · 17/01/2021 13:29

I got a test as i was certain she would have it. As it was her childminder who tested positive. I have a few different reasons for getting it, 1 being i am also supporting my father through cancer treatment so needed to know for certain to stay away. My other daughter is also in crèche and i think it is ridiculous that guidelines say she can still go. So now she has to isolate as her sister is positive. It will be interesting to see if i get it as i had my vaccine 2 weeks ago.

If you haven’t received a link to fill the details in contact online yourself call 119 they can arrange that for you.
Did you get the results by email, text or both?

Merriwicks · 17/01/2021 13:40

@christmascovid i received her result by email and text. We did the test by post. I didn't get any link about tracing though. I might call that number thanks

There doing 1000's of test you got call within 24hours

HoppingOnSteppingStones · 17/01/2021 17:32

Back when the rule was isolate for 14 days. My dsd had a notification on 23rd of the month to isolate for 14 days from. The 10th when she was in close contact with a positive case.
So 1 day isolation left. In thay time it was when restrictions were lifted and she'd been to theme park, soft play, parks, on a train with her GF. And even a small birthday tea party with 3 other friends and 1 set of parents (rule of 6)
Thankfully she didn't get symptoms but it could of been a different story or been asymptomatic and passed to loads of people

This! I really don'ty understand how the majority of mumsnet manage to get this simple thing wrong.
