I know there’s no correct answer but what are peoples experience with this. I’ve had very close contact with a positive case.

For me it was 12 days

Wankerchief · 16/01/2021 19:50

Average is 5-7 days but. Up to 14

HoppingOnSteppingStones · 16/01/2021 19:52

7 to 10 I think.

Frazzledmum55 · 16/01/2021 20:18

I hope it’s not 12 or 14 as isolation is only 10!

I was hoping the answer would be more like 5 😩

Hospital told me it was usually 5-10 days after contact but that was at the end of March time.

lightand · 16/01/2021 20:20

Mine was 8

Catsneezies · 16/01/2021 20:20

It used to be 14. They only changed it because they thought more people would stick to 10 days rather than 14...

Faithtrusts · 16/01/2021 20:20

For me it was two days if that's helpful

Crumpetycrump · 16/01/2021 20:23

Oh no - hopefully you haven’t caught it. I was a close contact with my boss but didn’t catch it. Hopefully you won’t either.

Frazzledmum55 · 16/01/2021 20:25

I was just kind of hoping I could relax a bit after a few days. I’m just going to feel anxious for the whole 10 aren’t I 😩
Positive case is a child who coughed in my face multiple times whilst I was zipping their coat up so pretty close contact. I’ll be lucky if I don’t get it.

A friend started with symptoms three days after being contact. She stayed home with her DS who didn’t come down with it until day 16. So either the brief walks he did with his mum when she first came out of isolation involved a time when he somehow came into contact with someone else who had the virus and he caught it that way or else it incubated for a very long time. My friend wasn’t well enough to return to work for a few weeks afterwards so any contact they had was minimal eg two home deliveries of food and a short daily walk near the home (they live in a quiet village). General consensus was that he just took a long time to start showing symptoms.

This. Hong Kong use a 21 day period for quarantine. The 14 days encompassed the majority of cases
kingkuta · 16/01/2021 20:44

Experts say the average is 2-5 days OP.

frustrationcentral · 16/01/2021 20:55

I think the average is 5-7 days? DS's Dads family went down with it and unless it was a coincidence (different contacts) then it was 2 days after contact before the second person started with symptoms

StatisticalSense · 16/01/2021 21:01

@SnowFields
or they didn't properly isolate within the household and the mother passed it on on day 8/9. 10 days is relatively safe as long as the household stay away from each other but where they won't do this the period should be extended to cover 10 days after the last persons symptoms end.

OwlWearingGlasses · 16/01/2021 21:12

Majority are within 10 days but can be up to 14 - that's why isolation used to be 14. They changed it to 10 to help compliance and the economy.

Frazzledmum55 · 16/01/2021 21:26

@kingkuta I’m going to pretend I haven’t seen any comments except yours as that’s what I want to hear 😂😂

I’m a single parent so can’t isolate from my kids so chances are we’ll all get it. Hope it doesn’t end up being longer than 10 days
