I don’t think many people will be surprised about this. Turns out using inaccurate tests for a purpose they weren’t intended for and to replace self-isolation might not be a good idea.

I’m sure the government will find a way to carry on with this idiotic plan anyway.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

I sniff a u turn.
Could just be the residual smell from the last hundred u-turns though Grin

Apparently Jaguar Landrover have been using LFTs in the same way the DfE had planned, ie daily testing for contacts and continued working unless positive. They’ve now got huge outbreaks in their factories in Speke and elsewhere and the unions are up in arms...

But it's OK everyone - schools don't NEED that pesky MHRA to approve the bullshit plan.

It'll be fine.

TrashedWarrior · 18/01/2021 06:17

Oh well that's ok then Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2021 07:08

That's outrageous.

notevenat20 · 18/01/2021 07:15

Wouldn’t pooled testing work for schools? For example we could copy www.cam.ac.uk/coronavirus/stay-safe-cambridge-uni/asymptomatic-covid-19-screening-programme

SaltyAF · 18/01/2021 07:17

This is still going ahead at present. I will be working with close contacts who remain in school this week. I think I might look into a legal challenge.

SaltyAF · 18/01/2021 07:17

Buy I don't know where to start.

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2021 07:24

You need small bubbles for poled testing noteven. We don't have those at secondary level. They also use PCR tests at Cambridge.

Did they really have small bubbles at Cambridge? In schools you can send children home which they didn’t do at Cambridge, Also, the standard PCR test was for any pool that tested positive.

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2021 07:35

I live near Cambridge. They were talking about this on our news. it absolutely was PCR tests. they are not 'rapid' and are sent away. their 'bubbles' were floors of halls , so about 12 students. Not 400.

They then tested the entire building or stairwell and isolated if necessary.

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2021 07:36

Also note in Cambridge who was actually testing the samples and where!

Liveandletlive3 · 18/01/2021 08:30

I know of a Dr who was working with covid patients and he felt ill a week or so later. He had access to lateral flow tests and took those daily which all showed a negative result but instinct told him to take the PCR test. Came back positive a few days later.
Lateral flow tests are not accurate as we think they are. They are unreliable and if a child is asymptomatic and walking around woth the virus, already having passed it on to class mates,

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2021 08:38

Interesting live...

Believe me, no one at all informed it the teaching profession thinks they are reliable!

TrashedWarrior · 18/01/2021 09:07

@SaltyAF

Buy I don't know where to start.

Is it part of the head teacher union's legal challenge?

Government u-turn on something to do with schools? That’s unusual.
