Summer Concerts

I've got some long standing tickets for concerts this summer. June in an arena, July in a field and September in a theatre.

At what point do you think they'll be cancelled/postponed, if at all?

its unlikely they will go ahead imo

BlueBaubles12 · 14/01/2021 10:42

I reckon the September MIGHT be on.

AcornAutumn · 14/01/2021 10:47

These events want to wait till the last minute

I presume there's no option to get a refund for any other reason?

I wouldn't book anything else, many places/ production companies will go bust.

Depends on how much prep is needed in advance. It won't be long before big festivals need to start prepping their venues or at least committing money and they can't do that if they can't get cancellation insurance, which they can't right now.

Unless there's huge progress in relaxing restrictions, or the government agrees to underwrite costs, the major festivals in June/July are likely to be cancelled or postponed within the next few weeks, certainly by the end of Feb.

The arena gig might wait until a month or two before, unless the arena makes a 'all events prior to X date are cancelled' type decision. That way it's easier for them, because they can just close the facility down and furlough staff.

The theatre event will probably hang on until at least July/August or even a couple of weeks before, because you never know. Unless there's a complicated set to build and transport, because they might decide it's not worth doing for a small number of events.

Pre covid, DP worked behind the scenes for festivals and concerts and he's not expecting to go back to it this year.

That's really interesting. Thank you.

As long as everything goes as hoped .....

I would expect June will only go agreed if the venue can ensure social distancing, if not it won’t.

July in a field should be fine and Sept in a theatre should be fine.

We’ve got tickets carried over from last June to this one for a stadium concert. It’s completely sold out but there’s no way on earth it can go ahead, there’s no way of social distancing.

I suppose the only way it could go happen would be to refund all tickets and then put a very limited number on sale and have those enclosures on the pitch which were trialed at a few concerts last Summer and have social distancing in the stands. However, I’d guess at the capacity only being a quarter full and that’s not going to make it financially viable.

Another problem would be if quarantine is still required then as the bands will only be in the UK for three shows before moving on to the next country, and then the next a few days later and so on. With quarantine for x amount of days on arrival that won’t work.
