What are your thoughts on weddings?

We’ve currently got quite a few weddings in the diary throughout this year from May onwards.

I’m not at all confident that large events like weddings will be going ahead this year (many of the ones we’re invited to are for 100+ guests at the moment) but keen to know others thoughts.

I know it’s all guess work but I just don’t think weddings are on any priority list to get back to normal at the moment.

When do you expect to see them back to full capacity?

Full capacity I would imagine spring/summer 2022 at best.

Interesting post OP and following to see what people think as DD has been engaged about a year and really wants to start planning but doesn’t see the point with things being so uncertain!

Considering the huge contribution the wedding industry adds to the economy hopefully asap!

Boris said larger weddings should be ok from spring, i hope that happens

Mousehole10 · 14/01/2021 08:32

I’m thinking weddings of up to 30 after Easter, 50 by end of spring and 100 by summer. Can’t imagine they’ll allow more than 100 this year. Complete guess though.

Depends completely on how effective the vaccine is and how quickly the hospitals empty. If they are back to the sort of levels we expect for the given time of year then the government will not be wanting to restrict us longer than necessary, the key is that all targeted groups are vaccinated and key workers too

My DD is getting married in May - well, we hope so! When we booked it it was 30 allowed, then went down to 15, and now not even that! but like a PP I think it will be revised rapidly once the vacc. rollout is having an effect, as it's such a money-spinner for venues/the economy.

I think once lockdown ends weddings will go back up to 15 and then gradually increase as time goes on, but there hasn't been any time yet where normal weddings have resumed I don't think (not just in terms of numbers, but being allowed a 'normal' reception with dancing etc.

I swing massively between pessimism and not wanting to believe that we won't have a sense of normalcy by the end of summer, but perhaps that's because I don't feel I know enough about the plan for how many people need to be vaccinated before everything opens up.
