Toe infection - can it be from covid?

A friend's young daughter has had a toe infection since more than a month which isn't getting better. The doctors (online consultation) said it's some viral infection. The medicine they gave didn't work and now they are changing it.
There are instances of "covid toes" mentioned at several places. Could it be that? She didn't get tested for covid. But she was in school and could be asymptomatic. A parent in the class had covid. And several positive cases in school.
Anyone else had anything like this? Just curious, not looking for a diagnosis of course.

I know someone (although he's an adult male in his mid 40s) who developed a leg abcess/injury (roughly 4x4cm) after recovering from Covid. I think it has to do with the virus sometimes affecting blood vessels.

Most probably not related to what your friend's daughter has, but worth bearing in mind
