Single mum with covid

spiritofvodka · 13/01/2021 20:28

I'm on day 5 of covid and I'm feeling worse by the day. I have two young children reception and year 3 and I'm a single parent. Does anyone have any tips on how to get through this with the kids? Home schooling has gone out the window today and I've struggled to do anything but feed the kids and get the youngest to sleep. My oldest made breakfast for her sibling this morning and is helping the best she can.

Glad you are starting to feel a bit better, I’m a single mum and getting ill is something that keeps me awake.,. Dot rush getting out of bed, it might set you back xx

dublingirl66 · 18/01/2021 18:11

How you feel op?

Bunnyteam · 18/01/2021 18:52

Hope you are ok OP!!

R2221 · 18/01/2021 18:55

CBBC is doing home school programmes. I think its 9-12 or something for primary. Just put them in front of the TV and get some rest. Even if you can just sleep on the sofa where you can keep an eye on them. Bless you - hope you get better soon xx

spiritofvodka · 18/01/2021 20:46

I'm starting to feel I'm on the right track now. Still very tired, achey and a bit of a cough, but it's much better than it was. I'm still getting a temp on and off. Kids must have noticed I felt a bit better as they've been very full on. Today's the first day in ages I wasn't in bed all day, even if it was on the sofa for a lot of it. We managed some home schooling today too Smile

You send incredible!!!

Hoping each day you get more energy

Awful illness
I've never felt anything like this in my life

GypsyLee · 18/01/2021 21:14

Council website.
They have volunteers, for all sorts of help.
So sorry you are so poorly.
Also local fb for friends and neighbours, honestly people would be happy to help, if they knew.
I hope you get better soon.

dublingirl66 · 19/01/2021 05:23

Great idea

Hope you feel better soon

Mentally planning nice things and a trip away has helped me get through the sickness from time to time
Most of the last week is just a blur

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 19/01/2021 05:44

@converseandjeans

Hope you're ok. I'm astounded their Dad won't see the children. What about if you fall more ill? Surely he could take them outdoors for some exercise even if he doesn't have them overnight. Do basic care for them? He sounds useless.

Does he by any chance have a new partner/baby?

Your parents could also perhaps take children out to park or on scooters. Pretty sure outdoors is safe?

If someone in the house has COVID no one should be going out.

Almost a year in you'd think people would know this.

The children's father should be doing this, not relying on volunteers unless there's no other option

Dickhead needs to get himself sorted out!!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 19/01/2021 05:54

@spiritofvodka

I hope you start to feel better soon!!

As a priority get an oximeter if you don't have one ( AS A PP said, they're invaluable)

Get dick head to get you whatever you need & send some takeaways for the kids It's the least he can do!!he shouldn't be seeing them while you're all in the isolation period, but that doesn't mean he can't drop stuff off, talk to them/read to them online & check in on you.

Email the school & let them know

If your sats drop or you feel dreadful do NOT hesitate to call for help. My GP (& others) are doing a Covid monitoring online thing. You report in once a day wuth stats from 3x per day and they'll sort out any medical help you need. (& I'm guess local help if you need it too).

Sleep, drink lots of water & eat a little if you can

Also try this breathing thing

HERE

@spiritofvodka

Sorry. I'm going to give up I think. My MN isn't functioning properly and seemingly only showing me parts of threads. So weird. I didn't notice your posting date originally.

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. Hope the kids don't feel too bad with it.

You've coped really really well 💐

Still try the breathing exercises x

spiritofvodka · 19/01/2021 08:28

I'll give the breathing exercises a go. My ex has been completely useless and made no effort to even speak to the children whilst I've been ill. He's more than happy to do the bare minimum. Luckily I do seem to be on the mend now and over the worse of it. I'm on day ten, but still have a week of isolation as the kids had symptoms. I think I'm going to write down some plans for this year to focus on.

Op you are an absolute star and a supermum. Hope you continue to improve.
Just a reminder that a government advisor with presumably more money and access to support for his children chose to travel hundreds of miles to access help from his family - and he wasn't a single parent.
Not suggesting you do that :D just pointing out how amazingly you're doing in comparison. And if your children run out of trousers aren't they happy to slob around in pants? Mine were until about the age of ten.

dublingirl66 · 19/01/2021 10:38

You have done so well!!!!

What a useless lump your ex is

And what a good example they have with you

I know how hard it all is
Some days I just want to cry
But we are nearly there now
I'm a day behind you

Best wishes to your family ❤️❤️❤️

Spied · 19/01/2021 10:47

You sound a great role model for your dc.
They'll come to understand as they get older that their df can't be relief on when the chips are downHmm and form their own opinions from times like this.

Choconuttolata · 19/01/2021 15:18

Glad you are feeling a bit better. Just a bit of a warning in a kind way, do not overdo it with feeling like you have to home school. You and the kids have both been poorly and the school will understand. I tried to do too much and am now struggling with fatigue.

dublingirl66 · 21/01/2021 19:18

How has everything been ??

spiritofvodka · 21/01/2021 22:05

Things have been ok. Still struggling with the tiredness, but we made it through. Both kids now have covid so we'll be isolating for a bit still. They both seem ok with it though.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2021 22:48

jeaux90 · 22/01/2021 09:39

Hope you and the kids mend quickly.

Single mum here too so just want to offer a big virtual hug.

dublingirl66 · 23/01/2021 01:32

Hang in there

Each day this will get better

You have done really well in difficult circumstances

Best wishes to your kids too ❤️❤️❤️

Reearry · 23/01/2021 02:02

You are doing phenomenal job OP! Do not worry about schooling and please rely more on friends and family so you do not exhaust yourself
