Curious as I am currently trying not to follow the news too closely since I've experienced a real mental health crisis in the past month or so.i am booked to go to a large outdoor concert in July, what are the chances it'll go ahead do you think?

OP posts:

Sorry to read this and hope you are able to get support if you need it.

I think the chances are very slim.

HoppingOnSteppingStones · 13/01/2021 09:43

Slim to none unfortunately

pinkunicornwithacatonitsback · 13/01/2021 09:48

I have no idea but I'll be gutted if they don't. We're supposed to be seeing Michael Buble in late July at an outdoor concert which was postponed from last year. I feel like it's unlikely to happen but I'm still holding out a little bit of hope...

Sirzy · 13/01/2021 09:51

I am booked for one in may and waiting for that to be cancelled. I have another in September and that’s the first thing I am letting myself look forward to this year.

I think July is probably going to be about the earliest we can do things like that but I hope I am wrong.

Take care of yourself

frozendaisy · 13/01/2021 09:52

I am going to go against the grain and say hopefully yes. Our local GP has said they are sending messages for vaccination for over 75s........

WalkingOnStarshine · 13/01/2021 09:55

I think there's a really high chance things will go ahead. Everything was quite normal this summer just gone with cases dropping and rules relaxed, so with the vaccine as well I think things like this, especially outdoor events, will be able to happen.

Busygoingblah · 13/01/2021 09:56

Hopefully the risk to your average concert goer will be low by the summer 🤞 the entertainment industry will have to restart at some point.

CrazyFoxLady · 13/01/2021 09:59

@pinkunicornwithacatonitsback me too! A well known castle in the South West by any chance? Will be gutted if it doesn't go ahead again 😢 Oh, remember the days of dancing in the sunshine without a care in the world Thanks

Splodgetastic · 13/01/2021 09:59

I don’t know but I had an email from the theatre the other day to say that a theatre visit I had booked from perhaps the first week of lockdown last year has been rescheduled for July. I had assumed that it was just cancelled! I won’t have been vaccinated by then but DH and the rest of the (usually) geriatric audience may have been.

Holyrivolli · 13/01/2021 10:02

I really hope so. We’ve got tickets to a festival in late July (tickets were carried forward from last years cancelled one). I would love to think it could take place but I’m not too optimistic at the moment.

Manzanilla55 · 13/01/2021 10:04

No. As I dont think those will reopen until full national rollout first. Next year.

CookEatRepeat · 13/01/2021 10:04

I hope you are getting the support you need OP.

We had tickets for an outdoor concert in July in London, postponed from last year. It was cancelled completely yesterday.

thereinmadnesslies · 13/01/2021 10:16

I really hope so but it’s looking less and less likely. I have tickets for June and July.

blueangel19 · 13/01/2021 10:16

I think difficult.

Justonedayatatime11 · 13/01/2021 10:19

@pinkunicornwithacatonitsback snap! Norfolk?

Fuckinellitsme · 13/01/2021 10:19

No, and I think it's shit that some ticket agencies (looking at you, Ticketmaster) are not offering refunds for shows that have been rescheduled multiple times. Especially as they changed their T&Cs when the first lockdown hit so they wouldn't have to offer refunds for rescheduled shows. We have hundreds of pounds tied up in gig tickets we probably won't get to use for a long, long time.

ilikegrapes21 · 13/01/2021 10:19

Hope you are doing ok OP.

Actually, yes, I think this is likely to go ahead. The government have said that they will ease restrictions as soon as the over 50s and vulnerable are vaccinated. If this leads to a reduction in hospitalisations and deaths then they will ease as many restrictions as possible. They may still recommend masks etc. but I think social distancing will be scrapped and everything allowed to restart.

pinkunicornwithacatonitsback · 13/01/2021 10:34
@pinkunicornwithacatonitsback snap! Norfolk?
Yup! :-)

I really want it to go ahead, but the other part of me also thinks that I don't want to have to wear a mask, so i'd almost prefer it to be rescheduled again and have it as normal as possible

IamHyouweegobshite · 13/01/2021 11:27

I'm not sure, I have Queen tickets for June at the O2, they were from last year, but tbh the thought of going inside, in a place like this, I'd rather they were cancelled.

User158340 · 13/01/2021 11:31

Maybe they'll go ahead for those with vaccine passes.

Rosehip10 · 13/01/2021 11:33

No

steppemum · 13/01/2021 11:35

No.
I think this summer will be like last, not lockdown, but social distancing.

I run a one week kids camp in July. Last year we went online, I am thinking that this year we have about 40% chance of being live. But I don't have to decide until beginning of May.

BogRollBOGOF · 13/01/2021 11:42

I'd be optomistic. Outdoor events such as running races were continuing in tiers 1 and 2 in September and October, and I see no reason why much of the country shouldn't be tiers 1 or 2 by June, July, August. It'a a low pressure season for the NHS

Plus the vaccine reducing pressure for the most vulnerable people.

We've seen globally that spring weather makes rates plummet in line with normal respiritory illnesses, whether its with Swedish light management or the Australian sledgehammer approach.

The economy can open up far more quickly this spring because we already have guidence and measures in place, and understanding of how to reduce risks.

If it opened in 2020, it should open in 2021. Things should open up much quicker to maximise the summer season this year. The next couple of months will continue to be tough, but I am genuinely optomistic that from April restrictions will ease and life will get easier. Then by the autumn, the vaccination programme will have passed its most influential stage.

I was looking at a July concert because it's DS' two absolute favourite bands at one venue...but the reality is the situation is unlikely to let the event go ahead, and as DH said- we wouldn't spend all this time keeping DS safe just to let him mingle in huge crowds and catch it then.
