Curious as I am currently trying not to follow the news too closely since I've experienced a real mental health crisis in the past month or so.i am booked to go to a large outdoor concert in July, what are the chances it'll go ahead do you think?

I doubt it. I read that most of them would have to decide in the next month or two whether to go ahead or not. They may start easing restrictions after over 50s are vaccinated but that will take some time and events with large crowds will probably be one of the last things that will be allowed.

ScrapThatThen · 13/01/2021 12:23

Not large crowds, no. If you think about it before Christmas they were only just trialling socially distanced crowds at sporting events in lower tiers. We won't emerge from the current emergency until? Easter maybe? And then there will be a lot of caution. Vaccination plans are superb but there will be delays and bumps and it might not solve everything.

Lemons1571 · 13/01/2021 12:26

No. The events companies who organise these concerts would need to be able to buy event insurance as of right now. It may be that concerts are feasible in the summer, but not many events companies will proceed at present without insurance on just a “maybe”.

Butterflyfluff · 13/01/2021 12:26

I think it depends what kind of concert it is

A huge crowd at something like Glastonbury is very doubtful

One of those summer picnic concerts where people would / could be spread out - possibly

RamblingFar · 13/01/2021 12:30

The concert I was going to at the end of May has already cancelled.

pennee · 13/01/2021 12:52

I’ve got camp bestival tickets. Praying it goes ahead but not hopeful until next year.

Freetodowhatiwant · 13/01/2021 12:56

I really hope so. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all be out at events again, music festivals, outdoor concerts, food festivals, parties. Ahhh.

EffOrf · 13/01/2021 12:56

I doubt it, we have 5 rescheduled ones starting with the Who in March, that is obviously not going to happen. Nick Cave cancelled his tour and we got a refund for that.

InsertRudeWord · 13/01/2021 13:04

I don't think they will be, sorry.

Spiratedaway · 13/01/2021 13:09

I think you will yes

Spiratedaway · 13/01/2021 13:11

Ps I would not ask on here it just fuels more anxiety

porcelaine · 19/01/2021 10:40

any more thoughts on this? the entertainment industry seems to be staying quiet, festival season slated to go ahead, etc... but vaccines not expected for all over 18s til September at least?

OP posts:
thecustomerisalwaysright · 19/01/2021 11:12

For the over-50s with vaccination certificates, maybe.

PrivateHall · 19/01/2021 12:42

Why only over 50's?
PrivateHall · 19/01/2021 12:43

I am not hopeful OP. I was raging that ticketmaster wouldn't refund tickets I had purchased for last summer and insisted on reshceduling, I would have preferred a refund because I knew it was unlikely to happen this year either. I am annoyed they get to hold on to my money.

ceeveebee · 19/01/2021 12:45

I don’t think that there will be big crowded Glastonbury type events. But perhaps more sedate affairs where people are able to sit in household bubbles, like they were doing last summer for outdoor theatre

I don’t really see why the vaccine needs to be a requirement. It’s not proven to stop transmission anyway is it? Might have to sign away any rights to sue if you catch it there though...

Daisy829 · 19/01/2021 12:47

@PrivateHall same thing happened to us. Due to go to hacienda classicals. I didn’t mind because I would like to go this year but I doubt it will be on. We should be given the option really

CoffeeWithCheese · 19/01/2021 12:51

Got tickets booked for something in June - not really expecting them to go ahead - mainly booked it for whenever they reschedule it to be honest.

sunnyday1976 · 19/01/2021 12:56

Picnic style concerts, maybe. There were socially distanced indoor theatre productions before the 2nd lockdown (I think it was!). So would imagine with lots of people vaccinated, social bubbles and fresh air there's a chance.

thereinmadnesslies · 19/01/2021 14:24

We went to a drive-in socially distanced Keane gig in early Sept. Each car was parked in a marked out square and you were not allowed to leave your square. Food and drink was delivered by golf buggy.
In the circumstances I was so grateful to be at a concert and Keane are always amazing live; but the atmosphere was definitely different and I wouldn’t want to go to many more like it.

porcelaine · 19/01/2021 14:56

Not sounding good is it :( I was hoping to see pearl jam who tour so rarely, they’ll be pretty old by the time I see them at this rate!
We can but hope.

I think the problem is still the uncertainty. Without government underwriting the cancellation risk, many festival operators face a point where they will need to cancel now rather than face massive losses if they cancel later.

I think gvt should step in to support them, as it would provide a real boost if they can go ahead.

What if you needed the loo?
Calmandmeasured1 · 19/01/2021 16:20

I think the chances are zero.

AuldFox · 19/01/2021 16:28

I hope so. I’d go see a third rate Slade tribute band at this point....
