We need to be given an end date

Vaccinations being rolled out and there will be a date when the elderly and/or vulnerable will have been vaccinated. It should be possible to announce a date now when this will have happened. On this date all restrictions should be lifted. Why has no date been given?

OP posts:
MammaMiaWallace · 12/01/2021 11:10

I agree OP. This cannot become an interminable situation. We have been given a smorgasbord of different timeframes thus far, none of which have come to pass; as soon as vaccinations are given to those vulnerable of death and serious illness then things need to change.

As soon as vulnerable people are vaccinated it no longer seems proportional to grind the economy to nothing, destroy our culture and recreation sectors (particularly indie offs), people losing homes, jobs, businesses and mental health, when the risk is then predominantly just people having a combination of asymptomatic, very mild symptoms or a less mild more severe flu-like illness, then I don’t think that situation is worth any restrictions quite frankly.

GabsAlot · 12/01/2021 11:13

its the 29th feb

PerfectPearl · 12/01/2021 11:13

What a ridiculous question,

They will not give an end date because they simply cannot ever give one.

BlueSky90 · 12/01/2021 11:16

There was a very similar thread RE vaccinating 18+.
It seems the question is being posed in different guises.

RickOShay · 12/01/2021 11:17

Who revels in negativity?
Really who?
Who is rubbing their hands at the thought of restrictions, lockdowns?

BlueSky90 · 12/01/2021 11:21

Whitty and other virologists don't run the country. They are scientists, and don't have a consideration for other matters such as education and economy.
Once covid no longer acutely threatens the NHS, it becomes unsustainable to keep up restrictions.
Just like flu, sadly some people will succumb to covid. An acceptable number of deaths, just like we have with flu and other infectious diseases.
Of course no 1 death is acceptable, but this is the way things have always worked with endemic viruses.

lilfoxfur · 12/01/2021 11:23

An end date!!

Dear lord! This is a virus. Do you want to just tap it on the shoulder and as it to let you know when it might be done?

It depends on how quickly the vaccine is deployed, how many people get the vaccine, hoping that in the meantime another vaccine resistant strain doesn't appear. It's an absolute myriad of things.

Believe me, I'm just as fucked off as you. I haven't seen my mum for weeks. ds is missing his friends terribly. I dream of days out and evenings in the pub with friends.

We just have to hold on and accept that everyone is trying their best, even if it's not good enough, and this will be over.. when it's over.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/01/2021 11:29

But they advise the government who run the country..

Covidiot · 12/01/2021 11:30

YABU and a perfect example of scientific illiteracy.

If you even had a modicum of understanding of science you would understand how insanely stupid your question is.

EngineeringFix · 12/01/2021 11:31

I'm not demanding an end date on an evolving situation. How would that even work?

LookWhatLaCatDraggedIn · 12/01/2021 11:34

Impossible for the Government to give any sort of 'end date'. They are having to react to an ever-changing situation and mutating virus, balancing the economy and constant challenges from the public.
Realistically this situation will go on for at least a couple of years, with a new 'normality' being achieved by 2023.

BlueSky90 · 12/01/2021 11:40

Realistically to who? You? Nobody has mooted 2023. This kind of comment has zero scientific basis.

Violetroselily · 12/01/2021 11:46

Perhaps you can write to your MP requesting an end date

Furries · 12/01/2021 11:46

@sorenipples

Some posters seem to have confused A) understanding there are too many variables to reliably set an end date With B) not wanting the situation to end I strongly suspect the majority if not all posters saying an end date can't be set, are not saying so because they enjoy living under restrictions.
This! Am surprised I haven’t seen welded, frothing and wetting themselves thrown at anyone yet.
LastTrainEast · 12/01/2021 11:47

We emailed the Virus, but it hasn't replied yet. Not sure what else we're supposed to do. Presumably the 84% of the people in the world with a god have asked him to help, but he's not picking up either.

You'll just have to wait until real scientists, doctors and such working in the real world have made it as safe as they can.

EngineeringFix · 12/01/2021 11:47

2023, where is this from? Could you put down some thought processes that got you to that point?

Japan are planning on Olympic games next year. Maybe they'll keep crowds away though. Things like that wouldn't surprise me.

I believe hand sanitizer is the norm in public buildings in Asian cities - I would welcome that but would it fall in the realm of never getting back to normal?

movingonup20 · 12/01/2021 11:48

The draconian legislation does expire in 3 months. They cannot promise though what they do not know

Em777 · 12/01/2021 11:49

People in their 30s and 40s have a right to vaccination before everything goes back to “normal”. 25% of people in hospital currently are under 55. And then there’s long covid.

Xerochrysum · 12/01/2021 11:49

Sounds like you live in a dream world everything works according to the plan. I wish I lived in a world like that, tbh.

movingonup20 · 12/01/2021 11:51

@MotheringShites

Yes it's patented but actually it is being manufactured by other companies under licence, there's just a limited number of facilities in the world. Packing the vaccine into vials is a separate job, again very specialist. Nothing is simple

bobbojobbo · 12/01/2021 11:52

OP wants to speak to Covid-19s manager.

Hmm
TiredUselessHopeless · 12/01/2021 11:54

Can you imagine if this carried on for 5 more years?

Could you imagine how people would react if they said “We aim to be back to normal by January 2026”.

Even in projections are known (which they won’t be because these things are just so unpredictable!) no one will tell us because the chaos would be unreal.

I think this will be the last lockdown. This time next year we will be more or less back to normal, but things have to be phased gradually or there’s going to be bedlam!

Parker231 · 12/01/2021 11:56

We’re along way off being able to return to anything like a normal life. The doctors believe we haven’t reached the worst of the numbers being admitted to hospital and needed ICU care. People in their 30’s and 40’s are being admitted to hospitals and the numbers of cases in care homes has increased again.
c70% of the population are going to need to be vaccinated before we will have a normal life but things like wearing masks may continue to prevent further transmission.

ScatteredMama82 · 12/01/2021 11:58

Impossible to stick to a vaccine timeline when people don't even bother turning up for their appointment. Excess doses were offered to all staff/volunteers at one vaccination centre over the last few days at the end of the day when a number of people had failed to turn up for their appointments.

nameinlights · 12/01/2021 12:12

restrictions will be killing more people in the non vulnerable group than coronavirus.

You say that like it's fact @Billie18 but no one know if that's true.

Anyway, you're missing a third cause of deaths- people who won't be able to receive urgent or emergency treatment (non covid and covid) if the NHS is overwhelmed due to the virus being allowed to run unchecked, or not controlled enough.
