Who has had the vaccine?

I'm confused as to who is getting the vaccine? I thought it was the over 90s then over 80s first, care homes and carers, medical staff? I'm hearing now that people can just go online and book themselves in for a vaccine but know of people over 80 that still haven't had it or been offered it? Does it depend where you live?

I had my first one this week after spending the morning vaccinating the over 80s in our practice area. It was a spare one at the end of the session.

maddiemookins16mum · 10/01/2021 20:43

How fabulous to read this, I’m so pleased for all of you and for those whose elderly parents have had it.

Mummydoctor · 10/01/2021 20:43

Also my 88 year old grandad has had his when he was in hospital for his three times a week dialysis.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 10/01/2021 20:44

Is a social worker one of the listed occupations that get the vaccine first?
Not having a go- I think it's brilliant!

ProudAuntie76 · 10/01/2021 20:48

It was never over 90s first, as in they have never done it in age order. So I didn’t know any 100 year olds who had it but I did know 81 year olds who had it.

It was Over 80s, Care Home Staff and Residents in Care Homes for older adults.

I’ve had it. I work in a nursing home and had it last week but none of our residents have had it yet. Everyone I know bar one person who had it prior to Christmas was NHS staff who weren’t first priority. I think our trust put the NHS staff further up and made them the first priority. It was a real fight for us to get the vaccine as care home staff. It’s been even harder to get it for our residents. Hopefully the Oxford Jab will change that but we did think we might have had at least staff vaccinated last month.

No - im a social worker. No over 80s have yet been done in my area but all care homes and staff were done this week, including 17 year old DD.

JovialNickname · 10/01/2021 20:51

My good friend who I know well is 39, in good health, and has had the vaccine. He was literally rounded up off the street late at night because there were doses left unused! I suppose it's better to give the jab to someone than have to dispose of it.

Mummydoctor · 10/01/2021 20:52

We had been waiting for the Oxford vaccine before we started with our care homes and care home staff this week. Unfortunately one of the care homes has an outbreak so we can’t go in there yet...

And yes, frontline social care workers are included with NHS staff as group 2 priority.

Ch3rish · 10/01/2021 20:52

@Alfaix

I have, dentist. Most of the staff at my practice had it this week also. It’s a bit of a postcode lottery but most places are doing over 80s- it doesn’t go in reverse age order though 😂, health and care workers. As Oxford comes out they are going in to care homes to do them too.
They've already started in care homes, really good work

My grandad (82) had his yesterday, but DH’s granny who is 90 hasn’t had hers yet.

CosmicComfort · 10/01/2021 20:53

I’m frontline NHS and had mine just after New Year, 2nd in a couple of weeks.

Omg that actually happens! I mean it’s good though.
SylvanianFrenemies · 10/01/2021 20:57

I have had first dose - NHS. The only people I know who've had it are clinical NHS staff. Relatives over 80 haven't.

You can only go on the website if you have a letter.

You only have a letter if you are in one of the top one or two priority groups (currently).

No need for the fake news and faux outrage. Hmm

JovialNickname · 10/01/2021 20:58

I know, it sounds all types of wrong doesn't it. To be honest at first I didn't believe him as I thought they were so strict on who could get it. But I've never known him to lie and he doesn't have a strong opinion either way on Covid, so not proving a point. He also lives in one of the first places that has a big vaccination hub. So I'm guessing they gave it to somebody rather than wasting it?

AgnesNaismith · 10/01/2021 21:03

Ahhh yes I found the website, put DHs NHS number in and it seemed to recognise he hasn’t had the letter yet. I think this can only be a good thing, means people are being vaccinated genuinely in priority order.

BolloxtoGender · 10/01/2021 21:05

They could probably roll out an ID card on the back the the NHS number....

2021welcome · 10/01/2021 21:07

Both of our elderly parents have had both doses now

Bluebellbike · 10/01/2021 21:09

I'm a Care Worker and am booked to have my first dose on Tuesday. Don't know which one though. My daughter, NHS MH nurse, had her first one today.

justanotherneighinparadise · 10/01/2021 21:09

From what I understand you receive an invite and then you go online and book the date/time.

The only people I know personally who have had the vaccine a three women who are 80+

gingajewel · 10/01/2021 21:10

@JovialNickname I can confirm that it is true, we had several left over from today’s clinic that go out of date today and they have to be kept in very strict conditions, we asked the traffic wardens manning the road outside and also some people from the houses opposite if they wanted them.

Spaghettipie1 · 10/01/2021 21:13

I have, frontline nurse. But don't think you can book them online unless you've been invited? Over 80s, health and social care workers and residents in care homes. But every trust seems to be slightly different, ie some trusts are vaccinating all NHS staff even those in IT/WFH/non pt contact, ours isn't. But yes, don't want any to go to waste so some is just given to those helping or who happen to be nearby as a clinic ends!

luckylavender · 10/01/2021 21:14

My father did yesterday, aged 88

Ledkr · 10/01/2021 21:14

I wonder when police and teachers will get it. Im fed up of living in fear that my kids will lose one of us Sad

daisypond · 10/01/2021 21:16

I know frontline NHS workers who have had it, but none of the several over-80s I know have been offered it yet.
