Should I get another test?

Had the start of a cough on the 6th had a test on the 7th came back negative. Cough is now really constant but I have no other symptoms. Should I go for another test? I’m worried that I went to quickly the first time. Or would you just assume it’s just a normal cough and the test results were accurate. For reference I’m a key worker so don’t want to self isolate if I don’t need to and kids are still in nursery.

I would. If you can not work from home you might want to be absolutely certain so you are not risking spreading the infection. I've read that you can test too soon, not certain if that includes testing when you have developed symptoms already. There is also the possibility of false negative results.

I think you should try to get another test. False negatives do happen.

Was it a lateral flow or PCR? My friend had (symptoms) - a lateral flow test negative. Two days later PCR & positive

Yes, I’d get another test. Plenty of tests available at the moment. False negatives are rife if tested too early as viral load isn’t high enough to be detected.

Yes in your situation I'd retest (pcr)
