Familys shopping together

Went to my local Morrisons yesterday and it was crazy, family's of 5 plus shopping together despite the schools closing to prevent spread , groups of people blocking aisles gossiping to each other trying to get past whilst keeping distance. I thought the whole point was to reduce the number of people going into the shops. I heard the staff getting frustrated with the situation. ( single parents of course should shop with dc but this was groups of families, seems like its going to be never ending)

U8myufo what is the point of closing the schools then? Seriously its in the news about further restrictions because people don't get it.

People being someone carer is completely different or someone's mental health deteriorating but this thread is about families unnecessarily shopping together.

'I don't know why people would take kids to a supermarket at the best of times unless you absolutely had to eg single parent. It should be stopped.'

If this comment is meaning not during a pandemic than it is extremely ignorant, why not named oaps and the disabled while we're at it? Hmm

No I've always wondered why people thought dragging bored screaming kids around boring supermarkets or B&Q was a good idea. The staff must have constant headaches.

Not ignorant at all. Shops are not the place for family outings with obvious exceptions such as toy shops and childrens' clothes shops.

I guess how do you judge though? If people are so quick to stigmatise how can we differentiate the mother whose mental health and anxiety really is on the edge and needed the supermarket trip (her only shimmer of light in the dark) with her driving husband and accompanying dc between the ignorant arseholes?

@3littlewords

So many people saying they have to go as a family as only dh drives..... is DH incapable of doing a food shop by himself and you stay home? Give him a list send him on his way its not difficult
Exactly. If he misses something you can get it another time, the world really isn't going to stop turning.
StickTheKettleOnAlice · 11/01/2021 11:32

@puffinkoala not all kids scream in supermarkets, there are good parents who dont let them run riot you know Biscuit

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 11/01/2021 11:33

During a pandemic keep it to one adult if possible but you really cant stop families going together in normal times. What about groups of teenagers and all the other disruptive parties too?

jakeyboy1 · 11/01/2021 20:31

@StickTheKettleOnAlice nope as I said I don't know why people would take kids to a supermarket at the best of times unless had to eg single parent.
And right now it is also completely irresponsible to have more people there than necessary.

I can think of nothing worse than dragging my kids around the supermarket. I don't want to be there and try not to why would they? Why would I risk my family's health by taking them to an enclosed space?

If you are a two parent family, in good health/mobility it's completely unnecessary as per the point of the Op's post.

And I didn't say anything about disabled or OAPs I think you'll find that was you.

Pootle40 · 11/01/2021 20:32

@IHTC

I think closing 'non essentials' drives more people into these places. A lot of people have had enough (people were never going to stick to this way of life indefinitely) and are using them as a break away from staring at the same 4 walls in their homes.

Jakeyboy1 didnt say you did Smile

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 11/01/2021 20:49

Oh and yes i am well aware of the point of the ops post jakey. Maybe you need to take another look considering you're talking about taking kids in normal times when the point or the thread is during a pandemic....Biscuit
