Is this implying what I think it is - that they offered GPs five grand cash to charity or in their pockets a pop to 'find spare vaccines' and presumably the company would then 'find' people who wanted them?

smacks of attempted bribery, lets hope to see arrests and charges brought.

FlibbertyGiblets · 10/01/2021 00:08

I know, it is mind blowing isn't it???!

wonderup · 10/01/2021 00:17

It's outrageous, I'm interested to know what their good intentions were?

Towards their shareholders and the undoubtedly wealthy people who would appreciate their advanced position in the queue in exchange for significantly more than the bribes donations paid to GPs.

If it isn't illegal to try this we need to make it illegal. Else find a law that covers it.

People and businesses need to know that the law will come down on them hard if they try and rig the priority system or just plain try to buy vaccine or sell.

We will see more of this kind of thing this year for sure.

pinkspideruk · 10/01/2021 00:38

its currently not legal to sell the covid vaccines in the UK

blueangel19 · 10/01/2021 00:51

Awful! Embarrassing and disgusting.

Btw, this point in time must be an eye opener for those who total control from the state or government. Queuing, not having a choice for which vaccine, less freedom...lovely way of living.

PrincessNutNuts · 10/01/2021 01:12

The government said there would be 4 million Pfizer doses in the U.K. by December 31st but the rollout is stuck waiting for vaccine half the time and we definitely haven't vaccinated more than 4 million people.

So maybe that's where it's gone?

cyclingmad · 10/01/2021 01:20

This really shouldn't be a surprise. Its what Pfizer does, bribes doctors. Even if your talking generally its still not a surprise, GPS get paid extra money to do lots of other things as incentives

itwaseverthus · 10/01/2021 01:22

They can have my share. An unteststed RNA vaccine for a novel virus, yeah, knock yourself out. See ya.

Purplethrow · 10/01/2021 01:26

That’s appalling, I’m lost for words.

Absolutely but surprised they have the galll to admit that!

GoldGreen · 10/01/2021 07:17

@cyclingmad this is nothing to do with Pfizer. A private property firm tried to bribe GPs to vaccinate their employees. They were refused and their actions publicised. It is illegal to sell vaccines privately at the moment in the U.K..

Mummydoctor · 10/01/2021 07:33

@cyclingmad even pre pandemic we don’t talk to drug reps at our practice. And no we aren’t incentivised to do anything. We are paid to provide extra services in addition to the basic GMS contract signed e.g. additional coil/implant clinics - that’s why not every practice offers them.

I suspect that's the best case scenario. Selling access to anybody prepared to pay significantly over five grand is what I worry they were intending, as they certainly won't have employees countrywide.

Five grand a time in the pocket? That's a hell of an incentive for somebody to accidentally forget a vial of vaccines after one has been given legally. 9 per vial. Forty five thousand pounds in the bank account. For one vial they 'might as well use up rather than throw it away'. And that's with one person doing vaccinations at a practice.

No property company would be able to afford that on a nationwide basis. Unless the people having the injections were 'covering' the costs, that is.
