My local library is open for collection of pre-ordered books, & returns.

But we're all supposed to stay at home - so is this legal?

Libraries are permitted to open to offer computer access and order and collect services under current restrictions.

At least they actually mention us in the guidelines this time. So ironic that library services have been thrown under the fucking bus and decimated in the past few years, and likely will be after this is all over, but all of a sudden we're an essential service.

Maybe you can go to the library under the education exception? Although I am not sure that really works if you are buying 50 shades of grey.

From the covid.gov website

The library I work at is open for 4 hours a week just for click and collect. We do a home delivery service too for those who can’t get out. We decided that allowing people in to use IT services was too risky.

Considering the sheer number of people out and about going to garden centres, shops, takeaways, and socialising, etc., I really can't get worked up about pretty quiet places like libraries. Now if they were so busy that they had queues outside and were too busy to social distance inside, then I'd have a different opinion.

I think it's insane that libraries aren't fully open, with covid measures in place of course. They're asking for home schooling, asking you not to send kids in if at all possible, yet the very resource that could allow parents to home school without electronic devices is firmly shut in our town.

My local library service isn’t open at all and I am heartily 🤬 off. Libraries are essential and it’s awful that they are underfunded (I volunteer at mine to keep it viable). Now would be the time to prove how valuable they are. Worst part, there is a book sitting on the reserve shelf waiting for me which I’ve been waiting for since beginning of November and which I was informed was available to collect on Christmas Eve 😭 I don’t have the funds to purchase and NEED it for study. Essential service I say. Yes I have given my feedback.
