Does anyone know when it is?
With all this new talk of this current lockdown not being enough I just wondered if maybe he’d step up and say something

Hadenough80 · 09/01/2021 16:27

Monday, I think there daily from then.

whoamitojudge · 09/01/2021 17:19

@Hadenough80 I wonder if anything will change?

OP posts:
yawnsvillex · 09/01/2021 17:20

What can change out of interest?

TrinidadQueen · 09/01/2021 17:21

Masks in outdoor, public busy areas I expect .

StatisticalSense · 09/01/2021 17:24

End of support bubbles and closure of garden centres and places of worship and hopefully play areas. Maybe limiting take-aways to places that offer substantial meals (as in no popping in for a coffee but allowed for meals). Limiting key worker school places to households in which all adults are keyworkers. Masks outdoors make no sense and it sends completely the wrong message to have any rule for outdoor areas other than avoid busy ones completely.

reformedcharacters · 09/01/2021 17:24

Not that anything will but maybe work from home unless a ‘critical’ worker, mandatory masks in indoor public places?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/01/2021 17:25

Ending support bubbles would be cruel. If I was single that's one change I would ignore.

whoamitojudge · 09/01/2021 17:25

@yawnsvillex Closing more shops that aren’t classed as essential. Also places like Costa etc.
Lockdown means lockdown. What is it going to take for Boris to realise this?

I've heard rumours of this. Maybe worth a consideration with this extreme cold as we know covid thrives off those conditions.
Meredithgrey1 · 09/01/2021 17:31

I’d like to see them clamp down harder on employers insisting on people coming in, despite them being able to wfh. A manager being a control freak who is incapable of managing unless people are sat in front of them is not a valid reason to force people to mix in an office.

I think takeaways may stop though.

StatisticalSense · 09/01/2021 17:31

@itsgettingweird
It would be a terrible idea. The message that that would give is that it is alright to be in busy public areas as long as you are wearing a mask when in actual fact it would be much safer for nobody to be in such areas (and there is no reason for anyone to be in such areas).

StatisticalSense · 09/01/2021 17:32

@PinkSparklyPussyCat
Not as cruel as closing take-aways, or even coffee shops, in the middle of winter when a sizable number of people rely on such establishments in order to have access to hot food and drinks.

Pagan101 · 09/01/2021 17:37

I think the majority of people who rely on a support bubble would flat out refuse to give theirs up if it turns out that's what the changes are. And yes, I'd be one of them.

TrinidadQueen · 09/01/2021 17:37

I really hope they don't stop support bubbles. That would be very cruel.

whoamitojudge · 09/01/2021 17:38

@PinkSparklyPussyCat
Why would you ignore it?

OP posts:
Nowmum43 · 09/01/2021 17:43

I don't think this lockdown has been given enough chance to work.
Surely all the deaths and cases are from the Christmas mixing? That lots of people seemed to still do seeing people the whole week and not just Christmas Day!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/01/2021 17:43

[quote whoamitojudge]@PinkSparklyPussyCat

Because forcing someone people to be isolated for months on end is cruel. Providing it's a proper support bubble, i.e. a partner, parent etc. I don't see the problem.

I presume people who want support bubbles removed aren't living alone and/or struggling.

@StatisticalSense please remind me where I said takeaways should close.

RedMarauder · 09/01/2021 17:44

What has Gove or Williamson said lately about particular issues? Then it will be the opposite.

doubleshotespresso · 09/01/2021 17:44

Support bubbles are vital to the general well being and sanity of so many I'd hate to think this may be removed.
We actually would be within the guidelines to use my parents as a Childcare/support bubble but have chosen not to for now.
However I'm fortunate in that I'm able to do this as I've got support from DH who's wfh.
If I was a single parent I'm sure I'd be terrified at the thought of zero support.

I think with so many frontline workers so heavily reliant upon takeaways that would also be a a tough choice to deliver to many already at breaking point.
In my view the general public need to be more compliant, we should literally be going shopping or exercising outside that's it... there seem to be so many exceptions and a general feeling of lockdown fatigue the whole "stay at home " message is getting lost. We have too much riding on this and nowhere near enough enforcement...

CaughtInTheCovid · 09/01/2021 17:45

I don’t think they can take away support bubbles. How cruel to acknowledge people need support then take that away. I think think making it a blanket rule 2 x key workers for a school place and perhaps the same rule for nurseries. Also stopping meeting in places of worship would be sensible, as sad as that would be for the people who get a huge amount of support from that. We haven’t seen the impact of lockdown 3.0 yet so I wonder whether it may be heads down and focus on vaccine rollout for the next 2/3 weeks until we can see how the Christmas rush and then the lockdown pans out.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/01/2021 17:46

You think they would tell old people who live on their own that are not allowed to be part of a support bubble? Thats just inhumane.

My DF82 is desperate for company. He can't see any of his friends or do his usual voluntary work. I do a socially distanced visit a few times a week ( in his conservatory 4m apart with the door open.) I am the only person he sees.

He has had his first vaccination three weeks ago ( second postponed 😡) so I assume he has some sort of immunity. No way am I going to abandon him.

Topseyt · 09/01/2021 17:46

I would agree with that, and I am not in a support bubble (family of 5 here in our house, all adults, so not needed).

I think vulnerable and lonely people (many are single) would suffer greatly if this were to happen. Some could be tipped over the edge.

Meredithgrey1 · 09/01/2021 17:47

@Nowmum43

I imagine the government doesn’t want to mention that a lot of the cases now are from their monumental Christmas fuck up.
FitnessFad · 09/01/2021 17:50

It's unbelievable that some people think support bubbles should be removed. As I previous poster said, I presume these people don't live alone.
I live alone, no partner, and no family.
You can't honestly expect me to stay in alone for months on end? It's crazy how brainwashed people have become.

StatisticalSense · 09/01/2021 17:50

@BrigitsBigKnickers
If society would accept support bubbles being limited to the elderly and under 25s who are living totally alone and have no reason to mix with other households they could probably continue. The problem occurs when single parents whose children are already mixing with their other parents household want to be able to mix with further households.
