How common are mild cold symptoms?

I haven't had Covid yet. It seems positive people seem to fall into one of two categories: either no symptoms or a bit of throat tickling OR proper heavy flu symptoms. I wonder if there is a middle ground, i.e. Covid feeling like a regular cold? Just wondering what to prepare myself for! I am mid-30s, btw.

I'm literally dying of the most vicious (covid) flu. Been in bed 7 days so far and feel abysmal

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 09/01/2021 12:51

I’m not the right person to answer as I’m immuno suppressed and would normally have a cold a month. I’ve had covid and was hospitalised for IV antibiotics but I felt AWFUL.
3 friends I know have all tested positive without symptoms, which is very scary!

YougoFargo · 09/01/2021 12:53

Common enough that 50k+ people can get it daily but only a fraction of them need hospitalisation

hamstersarse · 09/01/2021 12:57

I had a ‘bad hangover’ for a few days and a fever for an afternoon. Oh, and the shits

One friend was in bed for 5 days - very flu like

All other friends (x6) more bad hangover-y most with loss of taste/ smell

That’s all people in 40s

Son had a fever for a day and no other symptoms, same with all his uni friends. Just ‘under the weather’ for a couple of days

Fluteytooting · 09/01/2021 13:07

I had cold symptoms with aches, fatigue and loss of taste. It was worse than a cold, but not that much worse.

doireallyneedaname · 09/01/2021 13:21

Common. I know two people who have it currently with cold symptoms, bunged up nose. One has lost taste and smell too.

I've got a cold, slight temperature on third day and feeling a bit tired. DH no symptoms other than slight cough at the start and now a sore back.
Toddler didn't get it

@TunMahla
I have same question!
Had dull headache , now got cold.. scratchy throat but no fever.
Assuming it’s just a cold.

But should we test for Corona?

NeverSurrender · 09/01/2021 13:57

DS and I have woken up feeling like this too!

oakleaffy · 09/01/2021 14:00

People out food shopping yesterday were sneezing and coughing..
Town seemed quite busy.

If people are well enough to walk about with Covid, there is a very real chance they are giving it to others.

Despite diligent hand washing and mask wearing, I still caught this bug.

I probably would just test with cold symptoms now. I had a headache and runny nose!

CheeseAndBeans · 09/01/2021 14:02

I've got covid at the moment. Heavy cold, cough (but not too bad), slight fever, pounding headache and aches all over. It's not nice at all. Would be in bed if it wasn't for kids, 4 and 6, who are also positive but absolutely fine and bouncing off the bloody walls.

yeOldeTrout · 09/01/2021 14:12

If 20-30% are asymptomatic, and only 5% (all ages) are hospitalised, there must be all spectrum of responses in between, most of which are no worse than a bad cold.

TunMahla · 09/01/2021 14:16

Seems like there are a number of people with simple cold-like symptoms, i.e. basically what you would normally work through pre-Covid.

I'm day 13, I've had what pre covid I would have described as a totally 'normal' cold and a slight cough. If this had happened before last year I would've carried on as usual, however for the last couple of days I have been exhausted.

PuzzledObserver · 09/01/2021 14:27

We would have assumed we just had a cold were it not for the pandemic - runny/stuffy nose, sneezing, only later the cough. Now, however, we are both very tired (days 10 and 13 of symptoms). More tired than just a cold.

We have been up and dressed every day, but with very little energy to do anything.

If you have any suspicion at all, please get a test.
