Hi,

Haven’t known anyone with COVID until now.

My sons friend has had a positive test this morning (along with his parents & sibling!)

My son seen friend on Tuesday, the family on Monday. We aren’t in UK so still allowed to visit friends etc.

Kept my son home today as friends parent called first thing to inform us they were getting tests as feeling ill.

Phoned sons school who said speak to doctor about whether he needs a test or just needs to isolate. Awaiting a call back.

But what about my other children? They haven’t seen the friend, but obviously are in close contact with their brother!

If we were in uk, would they all need testing? Would they all need to isolate or just my son as he’s the one whose been in contact with someone who has tested positive?

Just looking for info on what usually happens! Although I know it may be different here. Thanks!

If your DS saw his friend last on Tuesday, it depends whether the friend's symptoms started within 48 hours of that. If he had no symptoms then yr DS wouldn't be considered a close contact as it's more than 48hrs between Tuesday and Friday when he tested positive.

And no need for anyone else in your household to isolate, whatever the conclusion with yr son. Unless he develops symptoms and needs a test.

(Am assuming by saw family on Monday you mean that yr son saw the friend's family on Monday, not that his friend saw he family. Either way this would only be relevant if anyone's symptoms started within 48 hrs of that contact.)

That's UK guidance anyway!
