1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

Oh I love this thread. Finally some hope.
I’m waiting for the day I know more people who have had the vaccination than who’ve had the virus. Hopefully it won’t be long now

@Bathroom12345

Once the older folks are done we can speed up further. I do wonder if there is a supply issue. My DM late 80’s has heard nothing.
I heard on the news today that 40% of over 80s have been done so far, so still plenty of others still in the same boat Smile
Oblomov20 · 13/01/2021 20:55

I dont share your views. I think it's pitiful and I'm furious.

Herhereherhere · 13/01/2021 20:56

Our surgery put a message out saying they had finished all 80 year olds. And to contact them if you were over 80 and they hadn’t managed to get hold of you. They have also done all care homes and are starting on the house bound over 80s next week!

I appreciate it may be slower in more rural areas but I was so pleased to hear that they had made such good progress locally. Fingers crossed it makes everything easier for the local hospital soon.

Care to expand on that?
Bathroom12345 · 13/01/2021 21:03

Mum is in West London and can get to her GP’s surgery easily. I hope she doesn’t get an appointment at a hub because she cannot get there under her own steam.

I live 2 hours away but of course would take time off work if required. I have been onto the GP website but there is nothing on there. I really don’t want to clutter up their lines to ask but a one liner on their website would surely help.

Oblomov20 · 13/01/2021 21:07

It's really slow and way behind objectives. How anyone can see it as a success is beyond me.

thatgingergirl · 13/01/2021 21:08

Bathroom12345 - oh, my dad's text was from his GP, but did give a link for a "hub" booking (not a national centre, but one that is covering our local authority area). I guess there are a few distribution channels. Hope it all gets sorted for her soonest.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 13/01/2021 21:08

My over 85 year old Dad has a first date of end of January and a second date of mid April.

Is that normal to have such a big gap?

Is the pledge for having all over 80's vaccinated just for the first jab?

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 13/01/2021 21:09

It's at one of the new big hubs.

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 21:12

I think you must have had a different set of expectations to me. I think 208k first vaccines & 16k second doses today is great. I'm looking forward to seeing what these figures look like in two weeks time but I think this is good.

“Really slow”? We’re currently vaccinating over 200,000 people a day and we’re the fourth fastest country in the world at rolling out our vaccine. I’m not sure how that can be described as “pitiful”.

If we reach our target of 13.9 million by mid Feb that will be blooming brilliant!

This thread is brilliant by the way, thank you to all who have contributed to it so far! I’m now determined this will be the only covid-related thread I’ll look at on MN; the rest of them were starting to make me feel like my soul was being sucked out.

I think we’ll have hit 3 million jabs by tomorrow lunch time, but it takes a day to report by the looks of it, so we probably won’t hear about it until Friday?

Bathroom12345 · 13/01/2021 22:00

Oblov I think is on the wrong thread....

notevenat20 · 13/01/2021 22:30

2.6 million now? I want a daily post celebrating how many have been vaccinated.

RedToothBrush · 13/01/2021 22:37

QUESTION: Based on the information detailed on the front page of tomorrow's Times that having had covid gives you as much immunity to covid as a vaccination (85% protection against assymptomatic and symptomatic covid) should we be giving vaccinations to people who have previously had a positive test before we give them to those who have not tested positive?

There have been 3.2million positive tests to date.

Should we be using this information for prioritisation given the need for speed right now?

The pledge is to have OFFERED all those in priority groups 1 - 4 a vaccination (single)

I note the wording.

My concern here is about people who find it difficult to get to a vaccination centre if they don't have good mobility or transport. If they are offered a slot but can't get to it, are they counted? Would this be a weasely way to get out of facing up to this particular problem which will affect many in the oldest age groups?

I hope people keep an eye on this, and I hope that journalists and the opposition are paying enough attention to ask the relevant questions relating to this.

Hancock has said that everyone will be within 10 miles of a vaccination site. Everyone was apparently within that for testing in September (I believe it was a lower distance but I forget what) and it was a problem because people couldn't access them because they weren't on bus routes / walkable / couldn't afford a taxi.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 13/01/2021 22:48

@Oblomov20 how is it behind objectives ? And so far the rollout is good . Where is your evidence to back up your claim

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 13/01/2021 22:50

@RedToothBrush we were not within 10 miles if a testing site in sept , about november time some pop up ones were around.
Think there is some home visits for housebound and also not all will take it up.
Yes some may have to travel nut hopefully more will pop up locally to all to access

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 22:53

I assumed the wording was just to calm any fears which are circulating that people will be obliged to take the vaccine.

Excellent news today on vaccine rollout. Lovely to read this thread. Keep it up ladies. Grin

The logistics of home visits are going to be the hardest ones to get around - and that will hold up things.

People who have mobility / transport are A LOT easier and quicker to vaccinate.
