1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

I think tomorrows snow will be worst around the Welsh Borders through to the Oxford/Newbury area.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 23/01/2021 18:24

What amazing numbers!

And the cases are down compared to this time last week and even the deaths seem to have plateaued.

Looking at the shape of the numbers over last week I think the next three days the vaccination will be lower but then on Wednesday we’ll start seeing them going up again. Anything more than 280k tomorrow then the weekly average will go up.

LyndaLaHughes · 23/01/2021 18:45

I agree re others who are eligible going along. I took my mum who is 77 for hers during the week and got my Dad to come along too on the off chance as he is 76. They did him as well and he was utterly thrilled. I had a feeling they might so I'm so glad I got him to tag along.

That’s amazing. Gives me hope. 🤞🤞
IcedPurple · 23/01/2021 19:07

@Londt

Nearly a million vaccines over 2 days?! Shock

That is incredible.

I really hope those doing the jabbing have time to rest their jab hands Grin

BAM!

Going to out myself as an oldie here but does anyone else remember the Depeche Mode song "Everything Counts"?

Maybe we could update it?

"The jabbing hands jab all they can. Every jab counts in large amounts."

I'll get my coat.

Covidcovid · 23/01/2021 19:14

I guess at some point the number of new people being vaccinated will slow down because people will start coming round for their second injections.

lunar1 · 23/01/2021 19:46

Total vaccines given! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

@IcedPurple I laughed ! You can stay!

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 23/01/2021 21:10

Wow. The vaccination rate is amazing!

cyclingmad · 23/01/2021 21:36

Have to give credit, where credit is due to Boris Johnson on his vaccine strategy. Getting in early and buying up as much as possible and not just that but buying different ones from different companies so we have enough vaccines delivered. This means any future production issues mean we're not impacted. Only thng that needs tweaking is the time between the first and second doses, Im not sure why its so long but at the very least vaccinations numbers are going up at a great pace.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 23/01/2021 21:51

Not joining the EU vaccine program was very criticised at the time. It was reported as disastrous to do are own thing. However looking at things now boy it was the right move.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 23/01/2021 21:59

Also sensible leaving it to the NHS and army to organise the logistics rather than dragging in another crap private company.

Yup, even Germany have basically gone off and done their own thing in buying up vaccines because the EU signed up to buy the French vaccine which isn't even going to be available until the end of the year.

You mean not spending yet more taxpayers money dishing out lucrative contracts to the cronies of the Cabinet ... yup seems like they finally wised up.

Last time I was on this thread it was 1 in 19! Wow! Blooming fantastic.
OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/01/2021 22:57

I'll admit I was wrong about being concerned we weren't buying into the EU program.

I came over her as omnicalculator (I know its not official) have imcreased their vaccination rate again! Everytime this happens I feel that little bit more optimistic.

Im group 6 and I keep looking to see when it might come. Ive been scared of schools opening befire Im jabbed (will probably just have had the one jab... but that's better than none!)

ShirleyPhallus · 24/01/2021 07:10

Wasn’t sure where to post it but how do you know if you’re in group 6? I have asthma, controlled by preventer and reliever inhalers and get the flu jab but I wouldn’t say asthma is severe? Wondering if I am in that group!

RememberSelfCompassion · 24/01/2021 07:19

AsthmaUK is saying group 6 but is "urgently seeking guidance." I'd read elsewhere that it was only severe asthma that was group 6. It does seem unclear.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2021 07:24

It is unclear about asthma. DH has it, but he is very well controlled usually. It would be easiest to identify them as those who get offered a flu vaccine I think as it's an automatic flag on their record already, but that criteria seems broader than the group 6 criteria.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-55758774 has an explanation about the lag in reporting covid vaccinations in Wales.

userxx · 24/01/2021 07:26

I've got a friend who is under 50 with asthma, I wouldn't say it's severe, it's controlled with inhalers, she's had the shielding letters and had her first jab. I'm a bit flummoxed as to why.

RememberSelfCompassion · 24/01/2021 07:37

Shielding letters weren't given out for normal well controlled asthma. There was a strict criteria (I initally thought I met it with the inhalers I had but you needed hospital admissions or several sets of steroids over winter to qualify.) I'd say you don't have the whole story.

ShirleyPhallus · 24/01/2021 07:43

I’ve actually just seen this, asthma UK says people prescribed a steroid inhaler will be in group 6
