1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

Theres offered and offered. A offer that you can decline by free choice and an offer you simply cant take up even though you would desparately like to but you are then labelled as a refuser and cant get access to a viable alternative.

@RedToothBrush Do you know for a fact that this is happening or is it just speculation? Because others on this thread have said they know of people who were offered appointments at other centres when they couldn’t make the initial one, or were invited to contact their local surgery if they hadn’t had the vaccine yet to arrange.

As others have pointed out, this is a huge logistical challenge and the rollout isn’t going to be 100% perfect. There will undoubtedly be hiccups along the way, of course there will. I just don’t understand why some people are so intent on leaping on every little negative - you need to look at the bigger picture and the bigger picture is looking very positive!

My mum just called and said her friend is having her jab on Saturday at their local surgery. She is over 80. She lives very out in the sticks so it is getting through!

That is great to hear @Blessex!

I also spoke to my health visitor this morning - she has had the vaccine Smile

The vaccine MAY protect people from contracting the virus. We don't know yet- so asking people to not change their behaviour until we do know is precautionary. I think this is important to point out as even though it doesn't mean that people should do anything different, the misinformation around the vaccine definitely not preventing infection or transmission is likely putting some people off having it.

Yes, I agree, but until we have more information, and particularly whilst so few, proportionately, have had it, surely it is right that people act in a precautionary manner? If everyone who has had the vaccine (and not necessarily the two doses) decides to get out and about, we risk increasing infection rates, or at least not bringing the infection rates down.

If people were to understand the current rationale, I believe most would have the vaccine.

In relation to my other point in my post above, I am fairly sure most have no idea that they should avoid alcohol.

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/01/2021 09:42

Where can you track the number of vaccinations being given per day pls?

FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 09:44

You can see it on the government dashboard here.

How long do you have to wait after having the vaccine before you can drink again? DH and I were planning on having a little tipple to celebrate once we've had ours! Grin

Its my worry that we will see goal post shifts, if targets are not being met.

Atm we are at the easy part of the process. When we get to the crunch week, will there be number fudging going on?

Its not like the government haven't done this at every key promise.

buttery81 · 14/01/2021 11:12

I don’t see the point in worrying about something that hasn’t even happened - let’s be positive for once. We’re currently the 4th fastest country in the world with our vaccine rollout and the fastest in Europe, so there’s a lot to be positive about!

Yes the government have made mistakes during the course of the last year, but the pandemic rollout is so far being handled very well.

If the 13.9 million target is met by mid February, there will be posters on here finding something to criticise about that too. Some people just seem determined to look for negatives in everything!

I've just had a look at the alcohol data. It seems to be largely hypothetical. I think it's mainly heavy drinking that has been shown to blunt immune responses to vaccines. Drink aware are recommending avoiding alcohol for 2 weeks after the vaccine which is probably sensible although I think the information was probably written with problem drinking in mind.

I actually think that the people they are vaccinating now are some of the most difficult i.e people in care homes with dementia or who change their mind and dont want it. This happened in my DF's care home. They tried to persuade the resident but she started getting aggressive so they left it. This all takes time.

I have just picked up the news and there were some old folks saying they didnt want to really travel to a pharmacy as it means a 7 minute drive. I thought that was a good option. What are they expecting I wonder - someone coming to their home?

I really hope they are not serious and that once the programme starts to speed up with an easier group to vaccinate we will be really flying.

Having said that the UK is doing really well. Some EU countries are just messing about in the weeds and getting nowhere fast

MrsWombat · 14/01/2021 13:51

My in-laws are being done today. Had the phone call yesterday. One is in a much higher category than the other but they are doing them together. I guess it's much more efficient having to make only one phone call to their household, and explain things the once? We are all very pleased anyway.

Blessex · 14/01/2021 13:52

My dad has had the call! He goes on Tuesday. He is 77 so they must be getting to the 75+ now. He has a pacemaker and had a stroke last year. So underlying conditions too. But he is still massively active so trying to lock him down has been tough. Tears of relief after a long year.

cyclingmad · 14/01/2021 13:55

More good news now up to 3million vaccinated, great work by the government

Cornettoninja · 14/01/2021 13:57

It’s great to see the start of us overtaking confirmed cases with vaccinated numbers. That really feels like something solid.

Eaumyword · 14/01/2021 13:59

3 million vaccines! Fantastic, hope they keep going and can pick up even more pace now the pharmacies are getting on board.
This is so good.
I'd love one for me (work in a school, chubby and old-ish) but I'd love my late 70's parents to get called more. They are so frightened bless them. I keep telling them it's coming - have faith!

buttery81 · 14/01/2021 14:01

Very true actually @Bathroom12345
