Circumstances where lifts are permitted

My elderly father has been given an evening appointment to receive his covid vaccination. It is several miles from where he lives and he no longer drives.

He is in his mid eighties, partially deaf and speaks English as a second language, which makes public transport difficult for him to use, especially when wearing a mask.

In these circumstances, is it permitted for dh to give him a lift? He lives with my mum, so we are not in a support bubble with him. DH would have all the windows down and they would both wear masks.

I have read the guidance but couldn't find anywhere that specifically says you're allowed to give people lifts to medical appointments.

Thanks in advance.

Can your mum give himself lift as she’s in the same household? If not the yes you can, you’re allowed to give care which this would come under.

Unfortunately my mum doesn't drive. Thank you, Mousehole, that's very helpful.

Yes, you're caring for him.

I work with a Covid Mutual aid group and we are offering a very limited service to drive housebound neighbours to the Vaccination Hub

Full PPE, Back seat, Windows open - not sure if its within the rules but TYaxis are operating like that

Yes. It says you can leave home to provide care to a vulnerable person.

Thank you for the reassurance everyone, it's much appreciated.

Much better he gets a lift than using public transport
