Vaccine 💉 availability for people who want to pay privately

Once vulnerable and key workers have been vaccinated, do you think the vaccine will be available to people who want to pay privately?

OP posts:
XenoBitch · 06/01/2021 21:11

I vaguely recall (feel free to correct me if wrong) that it wont be available privately to enable people to "jump the queue".

Spiratedaway · 06/01/2021 21:11

I think the under 50's will need to pay I also think a lot of companies will buy for employees

Atalune · 06/01/2021 21:12

I hope not.

However I would very much like all education staff to jumpy to the front of the queue and also get a 10% pay rise.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/01/2021 21:13

No.

We don't need yet another 2-tier system that disadvantages people with less money, puts pressure on people to spend money if their bosses demand it etc etc.

It's a Public Health issue. The first round, at least, needs to be government controlled.

Lemonpiano · 06/01/2021 21:15

No.

CarrieCat · 06/01/2021 21:15

No

pinbinpin · 06/01/2021 21:16

I thought no, or at least not for the first year or so. But I work for a US company and I noticed on a company update call yesterday they mentioned that they are in "talks" with their health insurer to secure vaccines for their (US) employees. NO timelines discussed. Guess that's how it works in the US. So much for the national health, I'll never get it here as a healthy under 50.

Thislittlefinger123 · 06/01/2021 21:18

No idea if it will be but I don't think it should be until it has been offered to everyone the NHS will offer it too.

So if eg the NHS give it to everyone over 50 eventually, then once that's done anyone under 50 that wanted to be able to pay for it should be able to.

But it would be absolutely wrong for a healthy 40 year old to be able to buy it whilst a vulnerable 60 year old is still in the queue for example.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 06/01/2021 21:21

I doubt they will make under 50s pay? It would look pretty bad if they did and in the grand scheme of things isn't that expensive, especially given the massive disruption covid causes.

I don't think the initial doses will be available privately for people to buy in the UK. Maybe in a few years time but not this year or next, it will just be rolled out by the NHS.

Ginfordinner · 06/01/2021 21:21

There is currently a scam going round offering people the vaccine if they pay. Apparently it looks pretty plausible. The vaccine is free so anyone asking for money does not have the vaccine.

PinkTonic · 06/01/2021 21:24

You want to put all education staff irrespective of risk in front of all the people who are most likely to be hospitalised or die? How would that help the situation?
testingtesting321 · 06/01/2021 21:26

I would imagine it must be available privately at some point, for example for people who want to fly and have been told by the airline (eg Qantas) that they have to be vaccinated first.

Skyliner001 · 06/01/2021 21:27

I really hope not.

Firefliess · 06/01/2021 21:31

The UK government has said it won't be. And I think most of the global supply has been pre-ordered by national governments so there may not be much of a private market anywhere just yet. I do wonder whether we'll be able to purchase a vaccine online from abroad at some point, and whether I would do that, or consider it too likely to be a scam/risky. You'd need to find someone to inject you though wouldn't you? Unless you could travel abroad for it?

Well if the uk Gov has said it wont be, I'll put my house on being available to buy by summer
Aprilrainbow · 06/01/2021 21:35

I'm sure that you will be able to get fake vaccine on line, don't know what will be in it though.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/01/2021 21:35

No.

Nor should it be.

They are vaccinating everyone over 16 that wants it, in the order of priority.

Paying to jump the queue. What makes you think that's even remotely acceptable?

BlueBaubles12 · 06/01/2021 21:37

No. It should only be available privately if there is sufficient supply for everyone who wants it to get it on demand from the NHS.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/01/2021 21:37

Local surgery warning about this.

Could be aqua, could be something dangerous. Almost certainly injected by some unqualified psychopath.

Porcupineintherough · 06/01/2021 21:40

Eventually when there's surplus supply Im sure that would be possible. No time soon though, at least not in the uk.

AIMD · 06/01/2021 21:40

I hope not. Vaccines priority should be done by need not who can afford to pay for it.

robinwisperer · 06/01/2021 21:40

really? do you have a link? all I ever read was that under 50s will not be vaccinated (unless they fall into certain priority groups such as vulnerable, NHS frontline, carer etc).

LIZS · 06/01/2021 21:43

I'd be very dubious as to the source and nature of any jabs available at a price and those willing to administer it. Vaccines would not be available from an authorised pharmaceutical company until all those currently eligible have been offered it - at least a year away.

Splodgetastic · 06/01/2021 21:44

I too think larger employers may provide it as a benefit and perhaps they should!

Layladylay234 · 06/01/2021 21:44

Regardless of whether it should or not,I think it will. The antibody tests were sold privately by Superdrug and the likes. And so are the tests now. It's going to get to a point where people are so desperate, and the country will be,that I think they will by the end of the year.
