Lockdown until 31st March

Rosebel · 06/01/2021 11:51

What a fucking surprise,. Story popped up on my news feed saying lockdown could easily last until 31st March.
Lied to again. Thought it was meant to be February. Okay it doesn't say it will last that long but why else would they be voting on it?
Not surprised just fucking fuming that Boris is desperate to fuck up my daughter's education. Got one in Y10 who although is in school is obviously not getting the full lesson. Also have one in Y8 who hasn't caught up from first lockdown yet.
Don't reckon school will open fully at all this academic year

They quite clearly says it will be reviewed mid-February but it may last longer. They haven’t lied, people just haven’t listened/read properly. Most of us have been expecting Easter.

Orf1abc · 06/01/2021 11:55

It will last so long because it's not a proper lockdown. Half measures drag things out, and actually do far more damage to the economy than a brief, more restrictive lockdown.

ParlezVousWronglais · 06/01/2021 11:56

It’ll be over when it’s over. I really wish people would stop this endless stream of pointless predictions which are always wrong anyway. People have nothing else to talk about I suppose.

Orf1abc · 06/01/2021 11:57

They haven’t lied, people just haven’t listened/read properly.

And the government gaslighting has started already. Always someone else's fault.

emilyfrost · 06/01/2021 11:57

Don’t be so dramatic; you haven’t been lied to at all. It’s to be reviewed mid-Feb, not end.

It's not gaslighting. I watched it. It clearly said reviewed mid feb. It never ever said it WOULD be lifted. That really is people. It listening
coffeeandgin26 · 06/01/2021 11:59

Not listening*

I’m not ‘government gaslighting’. It was said very clearly that lockdown will be REVIEWED mid February. If people decided to hear lifted mid February instead that’s their problem, but it was quite clearly stated.
BlueBaubles12 · 06/01/2021 12:02

I hate the government with every fibre of my being but in fairness, I don’t think he lied about this. Surprising, given he is the master of overpromising.

summerstorms · 06/01/2021 12:04

They didn't lie about this and it surely can't be a surprise?

covetingthepreciousthings · 06/01/2021 12:05

I watched the press conference last night and they seemed to make it clear that they don't know when they'll be able to lift restrictions, but just that they hope they can start SOME lifting by mid February.. I don't think you can say they lied.

Brunt0n · 06/01/2021 12:06

How do you have the energy to get so bloody stressed about things that haven’t even happened yet?

The government cannot say lockdown will end in feb. Because they don’t know. It’s a virus, it’s science / nature, it’s unknown.

canigooutyet · 06/01/2021 12:07

At least this time round there will be some form of education.
Far too many have fallen behind already and the CV hokey poky was a joke.
Hopefully when it’s reviewed next month, more choices to schools and parents will be given.

canigooutyet · 06/01/2021 12:09

After all the *gaslighting and schools to remain open at all costs it’s obvious they don’t possess any skills or equipment to predict the future.

*schools are safe

LucilleTheVampireBat · 06/01/2021 12:10

It will last so long because it's not a proper lockdown

^^ this.

I am not a lockdown fan. I hate all of this. I'm not afraid of Covid but I do desperately want things to improve. I am currently sat in a small open-plan office with 4 of my colleagues. On a business park where every office is full. Nobody is working from home. This isn't going away.

I feel the same as you @Rosebel, school closed until at least Easter means my DCs will have only been in school for 3 months in an entire year.

Really disgraceful that schools have been closed a second time. I can see the effect it's having on their MH, my 11 year old has already become consumed by the anxiety she felt during the first lockdown on hearing she won't be allowed back in for weeks. She just wants to be in the classroom with her peers learning.

listsandbudgets · 06/01/2021 12:11

I've just resigned myself to my poor children never ever, ever, ever going to school again and me becoming a blithering wreck muttering about binary, rhyming couplets, the Weimar republic and apex predators in my broken sleep caused by only one session of exercise a day...

See you in 15 years folks.

Seriously though I will be very surpised if they're back to school before Summer and probably not before September. Especially worried for year 10 DD :(

Bananalanacake · 06/01/2021 12:12

That's my birthday, can I go out on the razz, or do I have to wait until midnight.

Yes. We need to go with flow and stop pointlessly fighting. I wish they’d close the borders, however. Why aren’t they stopping all flights?
JanuaryJonez · 06/01/2021 12:20

I also don't get this endless blaming of the government for the way they're handling this.

I'm not a huge fan of them but they're doing their best in an unprecedented and completely unpredictable global situation, with a population that in the main doesn't seem to be taking it seriously enough and are only thinking of themselves.

It's a big ask...

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/01/2021 12:23

If you're going to froth, at least get your facts right.

AdamDriversApple · 06/01/2021 12:25

They haven't lied. He didn't specify mid Feb poof everything will go back to normal and no lockdown. You should realistically be looking at Easter at the earliest for restrictions starting to be relaxed.

happystone · 06/01/2021 12:26

Why do people still trust the government? 30000 people have to have the vaccine. Do you trust them not to fuck it up? I’m looking on lockdown lasting all year. They I won’t be disappointed.

Icanseegreenshoots · 06/01/2021 12:27

Er op, NO ONE promised this would be over in February. It was simply put that if we are able to ease up we will. A vague but hopeful goalpost.

Anyone any wit whatsoever would know that the lockdown will not end in February. It was always spring. Even then it will be a slow and careful unravelling and not a green light and we are all dancing on the tables again with glee.

Op your dc will be back in school after the easter holidays if all goes well, probably not before.

Carlislemumof4 · 06/01/2021 12:30

It'll be over when it's over? Not acceptable where children's emotional and social development and education is concerned. It's been a year already. Their lives can't be put on hold any longer without many suffering lifelong MH problems as a result.

Mine are so good about living under all restrictions, they are OK about staying at home fully outside of school.

We have kept our close contacts to zero for months to keep them in school. Now they're not, I'm going to have to get them out elsewhere as much as I can starting with this morning we went down the city park when yes they should be in the classroom.

Because they needed to get out, fresh air, a short drive and change of scene, a good walk rather than just home workouts. And this time as venues open, we'll be there. I'm worried about my 11 year old in particular starting to show some signs of agoraphobia. She's supposed to walk in to a secondary school for the first time in a few months. Has always loved school previously.

They need to get out of the house.
