Fan-fucking-tastic. And I don't swear. Honestly don't know how I'm going to get through this.

OP posts:

There's a simple solution to all this which is all of use home tests weekly including children. Compulsory rapid testing at airports. That way you catch the asymptomatic cases and in theory control the spread enough not to impact people's lives too much.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 05/01/2021 18:24

'Chris Witty, dementor in Chief, the man who never smiles in case his face cracks. He's the most miserable man on the planet.'

What a ridiculous comment. He's not there to tell jokes and have a laugh. He simply and professionally presents the facts as they are.

TatianaBis · 05/01/2021 18:24

It's a bit difficult to say at this point pandemic/endemic.

The WHO & China have been saying could be endemic, but the truth is until we get there no-one actually knows.

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2021 18:25

See now op. You’ve got people seeing your misinformation. And raising the bar, posting even worse, and now other people are panicking and believing the nonsense being posted..

TatianaBis · 05/01/2021 18:26

It seems Chris witty missed that memo. I think you need to contact him and let him know your wisdom here.

Not my wisdom, from scientists worldwide. And historical studies of pandemics.

oneglassandpuzzled · 05/01/2021 18:27

@RaspberryCoulis

Chris Witty, dementor in Chief, the man who never smiles in case his face cracks.

He's the most miserable man on the planet.

I've heard from doctors who've actually worked with him that he is a very caring man. If he smiled, you'd be saying he wasn't taking it seriously or didn't care.
MerinoFroggie · 05/01/2021 18:28

If everyone did what we are being asked to do, we could probably resume back to some sort of a life. It's not happening. A sizable portion of the population probably do care and follow the public health guidelines but others don't care and they are putting others at risk and are contributing to rising covid cases and spread. If everyone settled down and relaxed instead of rushing out and about, we would probably get infection rates under control.

Carlislemumof4 · 05/01/2021 18:28

It was obvious over the weekend they were trying to say to the teaching unions 'if you push this legal action some primary children could be out of the classroom for months. We can't put their lives on hold, it's important for their social development and mental health to be in school. Full-time online learning isn't suitable for them'.

The unions pushed it anyway, knowing that (all that two week closures stuff was obvious bull) and here we are. Year 6 DD possibly not setting foot in her primary again.

Some restrictions such as mask wearing and limiting numbers indoors next winter I would have already expected though. Let's hope it's more like tier 2 was here last month and that the vaccine programme can be further developed successfully.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 05/01/2021 18:29

'Which sounds like common sense to me. During winter we take extra care with other viruses - flu, noro, wvv, etc. (albeit on a much lower scale) so its obvious that we would need to add covid to our list of things to avoid spreading.'

Exactly. It's here to stay, however with vaccines, like flu, it will be manageable. He's trying to be clear for the 'lockdown doesn't cure the virus innit! I wont have me civil liberties spoilt' deniers/mask refusers.

Drogonssmile · 05/01/2021 18:30

Course we will. I knew it.

SleepingStandingUp · 05/01/2021 18:30

Chris Witty, dementor in Chief, the man who never smiles in case his face cracks.
He's the most miserable man on the planet
Yeah it's like he's spent months telling millions of people really shit news and putting up with Boris

lynsey91 · 05/01/2021 18:30

@Mousehole10

They are pretty stupid if they think most peoooe will stick to their rules by next winter.
Well I will stick with the rules as will all my family and friends. Why wouldn't we?

I think you are pretty stupid to think not sticking to the rules is a good idea. That's why things are as bad as they are now.

MiaMarshmallows · 05/01/2021 18:30

Also heard nice stuff about Chris Whitty from those who know him personally.

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2021 18:30

@Earlgrey666

I am panicking about this, it's all so depressing and neverending.
Me too. I keep thinking there may be more to all this than meets the eye but then I tell myself I'm being silly. It feels so bleak and worse than it did in March. I know it's winter time and the new mutant strain hasn't helped matters but I can't shake these unsettled feelings.
Ridcully82 · 05/01/2021 18:30

@Bluntness100

God I hate these scaremongering threads. He didn’t say that. Why do people post links to things they haven’t read or don’t understand.

He absolutely did not say we would still have restrictions next winter. Nor does the bloody article you linked to say that.

I feel so sorrry for these guys. They get asked questions about worst case, and they say something like we hope and think this will be enough and we should be fine, but if something goes wrong then worst case could occur

And someone screams “worst case is going to occur” then runs round their house with their pants on their head, before starting a thread on mumsnet so others can join in with the pretend stuff said.

Couldn't agree more
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 05/01/2021 18:31

I always think Chris Witty hates Boris...

friendlycat · 05/01/2021 18:31

Whitty was being realistic not alarmist. You need to listen again to what he said.
Buy what he did stress was how important it is for everyone to follow the rules collectively. I heard that loud and clear.

Meruem · 05/01/2021 18:31

I think he was just being realistic. Covid is here to stay. We just need to get it to an “acceptable” level. Better than Boris and his false optimism. If we have spring, summer and autumn with less restrictions it’s not going to be that bad to have “some” restrictions for a few weeks next winter. No point speculating at this stage what those might be. It’s a long way away and who knows what will happen in the interim.

WhatFreshHell · 05/01/2021 18:31

@Mousehole10

I’ll join you in the saying no. I’m not prepared to live under restrictions after spring.
Same here.
Confusedandshaken · 05/01/2021 18:31

Until people start obeying the rules that are in place they are just going to get stricter and some people only seem to think rules matter when they are personally affected . I live in London. During the Christmas break a friend of ours visited her daughter 60 miles away in Tier 2. She also visited her sons new flat as well as meeting another (doctor) daughter outdoors for a walk. (She didn't tell the doctor daughter about the other visits.). DR D now has CoVid (not badly I'm glad to say) and my friend has to quarantine. She is now being very vocal on SM about people not taking things seriously and spreading the virus.

FleetwoodRaincoat · 05/01/2021 18:32

This government has fucked everything up. They've been an absolute disgrace. We're now the laughing stock of the entire world due to their inability to tackle this virus properly. I hate them for all the people they've let die through their lack of care for their people. They've ruined everything.

InterfectoremVulpes · 05/01/2021 18:32

@Bluntness100

I honestly think threads based on wrong information should be deleted. Its one thing where its a matter of opinion or interpretation which can actually be debated, but actual false statements just lead to anxiety and panic.
GetOffYourHighHorse · 05/01/2021 18:34

'I've heard from doctors who've actually worked with him that he is a very caring man. If he smiled, you'd be saying he wasn't taking it seriously or didn't care.'

Yes and it would just be weird. I like his quiet, simple delivery. He's very reassuring. Not overly keen on Van Tam's constant analogies.

Amidone · 05/01/2021 18:35

FGS....

He does come across an an intelligent man ..
