Fan-fucking-tastic. And I don't swear. Honestly don't know how I'm going to get through this.

As said, I get your point. Your trying to say the underlying cause is irrelevant.

The list of the conditions they count is published thoug and it is not things like ibs or autism.

TheSunIsStillShining · 05/01/2021 23:30
  1. idb, not ibs. But this is a very minor point.
  2. Not saying irrelevant. What I'm saying is that the 400 number is a misrepresentation of the data simply.
happystone · 05/01/2021 23:40

We dod last time can again it is what it is. Worst things happen at sea

Pissedoff1234 · 05/01/2021 23:52

@Bluntness100

God I hate these scaremongering threads. He didn’t say that. Why do people post links to things they haven’t read or don’t understand.

He absolutely did not say we would still have restrictions next winter. Nor does the bloody article you linked to say that.

I feel so sorrry for these guys. They get asked questions about worst case, and they say something like we hope and think this will be enough and we should be fine, but if something goes wrong then worst case could occur

And someone screams “worst case is going to occur” then runs round their house with their pants on their head, before starting a thread on mumsnet so others can join in with the pretend stuff said.

Yes to this.

Pandemics happen, they last a few years, they dwindle, pop up again and usually fuck off at some point. And that's without a vaccine.

I am taking the lockdown really seriously and I've followed the rules so far but I cant buy into this crap. People really think this is never going to end. Never. I don't think so.

Sallygoround631 · 06/01/2021 00:11

I may have misunderstood something but IBS is not an underlying 'condition', nor would it cause issues with covid. I often occurs in conjunction with other physical and mental problems, but on it's own is not a risk fact for anything whatsoever.

IBD on the other hand is more complicated.

MrsFezziwig · 06/01/2021 00:31

We'll probably get nearer normality in July/August but then what happens when the non-vaccinated kids and students go back in September and the virus starts to circulate again?

It’ll be chance for those on here who think that anyone over 60 or with “underlying conditions” should just lock themselves away while everyone else carries on as normal, to put their money where their mouth is.

ineedaholidaynow · 06/01/2021 00:44

Looking at a number of threads where so many people are sending their children into school under the key worker provision, school bubbles will be bursting everywhere.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 01:11

Gosh some people really only here what they want
I thought he explained well and yes he is cautious as i expect after this new strain spreading so fast they have to be .

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 01:23

@firthy85 so nothing open other than supermarkets for a year ? Do you still want your bins collected and you water and gas and electric , and your bank to run?
Also the food you eat is produced in a factory or picked or transported by someone.
Also the nhs and furlough is paid via taxes from people working and business , hoW would everyone feed there families if all work was stopped.
Its a balancing act

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 01:29

@CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate how are they all on less than £400 a month , that will vary.
Its a shit time for many but we don't have a lot of choice.
I lost my job in march and have struggled to get another but was suprprised that I could claim uc even though dh works on what I think is an ok wage , its not a lot but it helps And as i have found temp work on an off , this works with uc as they adjust it.
But it is def crap and I hope this lockdown and vaccination works so we can start up our economy again and get people back working etc

tobee · 06/01/2021 01:34

It's not actually rapidly mutating.

And the worst doesn't keep happening. Only a few weeks ago scientists were saying we might never get a vaccine. Or it would take years. Or it might have very low efficacy. We already have 3 vaccines and they have very good efficacy.

But good old Mumsnet likes to forget those bits and just run with misery

netsket13 · 06/01/2021 01:54

At this point who bloody cares if Tony Blair is a war criminal

CanWeHaveSnow · 06/01/2021 01:55

The country will never be the same again.

Surely you dont need someone to tell you that

tobee · 06/01/2021 02:16

@CanWeHaveSnow

The country will never be the same again.

Surely you dont need someone to tell you that

Hmm
CanWeHaveSnow · 06/01/2021 02:23

Why Hmm

You think we will ever get back to a time how it was before Covid?

tobee · 06/01/2021 02:34

Of course!

tobee · 06/01/2021 02:38

This way of life will be confined to history books in 10 to 20 years.

Do you remember 9/11 @CanWeHaveSnow ? People thought that life would never go back to normal then too!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/01/2021 02:55

Except that that's NOT what he said bits just your poor misinterpretation of what he said.

Of course he cannot guarantee kids will be back in school before summer. He can't guarantee there won't be worse mutations etc & even if there isn't he cannot guarantee what the Govt will decide, it's not within his power.

He said they MAY have to reintroduce some measures/curbs next winter, that is not the same as STILL doing what we're doing now.

I do wish people wouldn't put their own spin on things, then start 'the sky is falling in' threads

And I wish people would stop being so bloody nasty about him. He's a fantastic bloke, doing a brilliant job, in a role he never expected.

He's realistic, it's not his fault he has to continually being BJ back down to Earth after he's promised the fucking impossible.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/01/2021 03:01

@lunalulu

Personally I think I may do my best to emigrate as soon as possible!

This is not really good enough. I wish we'd had Keir S. Or Tony B. Or both.

Jesus Christ, things are bad, but not THAT bad.
CanWeHaveSnow · 06/01/2021 03:17

@tobee

Bit different tho!!!!!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/01/2021 03:18

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

I always think Chris Witty hates Boris...
I think CW is too nice to hate BJ, but I bet he wishes he could use a roll of gaffa tape.
tobee · 06/01/2021 03:21

Well of course it's different!

But why do you think won't go back to how it was before? Pandemics have come and gone in the past, they have dwindled to levels that we can live with, with far less scientific knowledge. Humankind is hard wired to survive this kind of thing.

Guineapigbridge · 06/01/2021 03:22

I live you Bluntness
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/01/2021 03:24

@Londt

Have they ever said they will vaccinate everyone? Is it not going to just be the 9 categories listed?
Yes, everyone over 16 thats wants to be.
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/01/2021 03:44

@HotMess2021

I have so much respect for Chris whitty. Especially how he was working shifts on COVID wards all throughout Christmas.
Until this thread, I hadn't realised he had. I'm even more impressed.

HOWEVER, I wish he hadn't/wouldn't. The whole of the UK needs him too much, fir him to put himself in harms way like that.

Though if he came to my bedside, I'd be instantly reassured that I had the best chance of surviving it.
