I’ve got a slot at a National Trust property, intending to have a nice long walk outside.

It’s about 10 miles away (I live in the suburbs of a City).

It’s within my Local Authority area, I don’t have to pass through another.

I feel safer at a place that caps attendance, there is a small park where I live but it’s about the same size as a football pitch, it’s a free for all.

Reasonable to go to this NT place?

I'm happy being brain dead tbh. I stick to the rules. I WFH, my DC are being homeschooled, I don't go shopping, we walk to our local park daily, no massive parties or christmas gatherings.

I don't give a shit what other people do anymore. Its quite liberating. I agree with PP, if you have doubts then its probably a no. In that case, the angsting on mn is either attention seeking or goady.

@TwirlingTwizzler

It's not about 'killing grannies' ffs.

It's about not taking any unnecessary risks or contacts to stop the nhs becoming so overwhelmed, something that is imminently going to happen if people don't stop dicking around, preventing others being treated for non Covid reasons.

Hurrah for the poster that said in the 73 million years of driving they've never had an accident or broken down. So fucking what? If and I stress IF either of those things happen at the moment then you're just adding to the pile of deep shit were already in.

Exactly this. We ALL need to reduce the risks of spreading the infection. If we don't, then the restrictions will just last longer.
Jangle33 · 05/01/2021 11:58

Honestly the national trust needs to take some responsibility here and only allow people who live locally to visit.

VanGoghsDog · 05/01/2021 11:58

You're supposed to stay in your village. They should've put postcode - that would be clearer

If you literally mean post code, for me that's five houses. I'll just walk round them for hours.

Are you a parody account? Hmm

What over the top hyperbole

Merrymumoftwo · 05/01/2021 12:00

Being discussed Wednesday in parliament for the legislation to be passed to become law maybe then it will be clearer?

TwirlingTwizzler · 05/01/2021 12:02

@WeighgainCmas its comments like your that are going to see restrictions just go on and on.

Has it escaped your notice that several hospitals are already at breaking point? And that's before the Christmas and new year mingling even hits yet.

Hyperbole my arse...

BigWoollyJumpers · 05/01/2021 12:03

@blazinglightonthehill

"You could be going to the NT property to just have a cup of tea on a bench with a friend-not exercise at all. It's all very grey isn't it."

I don't think that bit is grey at all - it literally says not for leisure such as picnics.

You're supposed to stay in your village. They should've put postcode - that would be clearer.

You're are supposed to stay in your village! Do you live in a village? Ours has NOTHING in it other than houses..... and fields. Yes, you can walk for miles across muddy fields, but that's it. So, we do all get in our cars to do anything else, and yes, go to the local town 15 mins away, to get essentials, and while we are there, perhaps go for a walk somewhere where you don't need waders Shock.
TwirlingTwizzler · 05/01/2021 12:03

Ffs apparently my hyperbolic ramblings has affected my use of grammar Grin

Grenlei · 05/01/2021 12:03

But every activity we do carries some risk.

The OP could be in a car accident in her 15 min drive. Equally she could walk out of her front door, slip on an icy pavement and injure herself that way. Or trip over at home (I know someone who tripped over their child's shoes in the hallway and broke a wrist. It happens).

I completely understand the idea of minimising risk, but by the same token where do you draw the line? This isn't driving 2 hours to get to a beauty spot, it's a 15 min journey, maybe less. Lots of people travel a similar or longer distance to supermarkets.

midgebabe · 05/01/2021 12:04

It would be a lot more useful in reducing risks if people who could work from home were allowed to and if shops had a 1 adult only rule and if schools were firmer on the key worker children limits than trying to dictate a maximum mileage definition of "local"

My postcode area is huge, as I'm in a rural area. I can drive 10 miles and still be in my postcode.
Grenlei · 05/01/2021 12:08

As for staying in your postcode...! I live in Greater London, but in my postcode there are no supermarkets, so by that logic I don't get to eat.

Not everyone (even when living in urban areas) has everything on their doorstep.

Plussizejumpsuit · 05/01/2021 12:08

@Grandtheft

Oh I’m so glad we’re back to the ‘what if your car broke down’ shite. OP don’t you know that if you want to do anything beyond trudging round a yard for your exercise you are personally responsible for many deaths and are a selfish selfish human being. FFS what have we all become?

Oh god I totally agree, so bloody depressing isn't it Sad

It's just gone mental again. Absolute hysteria. Ffs. I think people need to remember the purpose of the law/guidance. Are you actually at increased risk or creating increased risk if you wallk from your door vs a drive away? No of course not!

The what if your car breaks down etc is redic. The chances are low and if it does the person assisting has ppe you have ppe. Ffs. I honestly think some people just fucking love rules. Also I'm saying this from a pro lockdown point of view. I'm not someone who thinks we shouldn't be bothering at all. I just think we could do with a bit less hysteria.

tootyfruitypickle · 05/01/2021 12:10

I’ve got a booking at nat trust 30 miles away and was just thinking about this and obviously won’t go.

I also have a booking for one of their light shows in Feb the same distance away but think it’s probably too early to make a call on that.

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2021 12:13

If you are going to ask a question about traveeling during a pandemic after a major announcement has been made then there will be some opinions. Otherwise why post?

I don't get why everyone's jumping up and down with rage about it being pointed out that the 20 mile round trip might not be without incident. But it's ok because the breakdown person will be wearing PPE. Confused

I am starting to remember why I had a few months off MN during the first lockdown. Nobody could say anything without getting jumped on. Looks like round 2 is upon is.

tootyfruitypickle · 05/01/2021 12:14

Although I live next to a nat trust site which doesn’t need booking and I’m much more likely to bump into someone physically there as it’s rammed with people driving in (this is my local green space).
So still mulling over

Chanjer · 05/01/2021 12:15

If the car breaks down then rescue services would be needed. If involved in a car crash then emergency services might be needed and a trip to hospital.

This is such a stupid argument

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2021 12:16

Why? It's fact.
midgebabe · 05/01/2021 12:18

It's not stupid

Some people might decide that risk is small , especially if it means you can exercise away from other people, although in the first lockdown the reduction in car accidents did help

Also in the first lockdown some people near me did not go out at all as they felt very unsafe as thier street was very busy.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 05/01/2021 12:19

DH's walks and runs take him about 10 miles from our house and I would say they were local, he generally does 20-30 miles on average.

Why is my argument stupid? It's a risk that could've been avoided by leaving the car on the drive.

Obviously if the person lives rurally/no local shop and has to go to the supermarket then that's an essential use of the car, people need to be fed. Going to a NT place isn't essential.

OP is talking about travel WRT a car journey, I don't think they are planning to walk there. That's different.
Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2021 12:22

I agree @TwirlingTwizzler, I would imagine everyone that has a smash in the car or it breaks down wasn't expecting to. The likelihood is low but it exists.

HarrietOh · 05/01/2021 12:23

10 miles is nothing! I have to travel 19 miles back and forth between mine and DPs house.

Can't believe we're back to the 'what if you breakdown/crash' rants Hmm
